actually naugahide comes from the legs of flys, that is why i shoot them in the eye instead of ruining perfectly good naugshide.

Some does but not enough...so that is why I only shoot off one of each fly's leg...instead of ruining what little hide is there....You are right...good point...but we still need the breeding pairs of Naugas...right ?

My dad used to call it nahogahyde, so I always thought it came from the part of the hog nobody used. Hey...anyone up for a snipe hunt?

I still have the bag, from the last one I went on:mad:

That's good to know. Here I've been mashing them with the flyswatter and missing out on a little additional income. From now on, I'll be a little more careful not to waste a commodity

I came across this and just wondered....wondered where to find a breeding pair and I suppose you would need several pairs in different colors...With this nostalgia thing...Naugahide will probably make a comeback...Take a look at this..:cool2:

Once again. Where do they raise Nauga's? Are they extinct? - Yahoo! Answers
I quit raising Naugas when the market dried up and started raising neets for neets foot oil. It has been a slow go as they only grow one "foot" a year. . . . . .

Brin,
No Naugas here. Just way too much trouble to raise. They are always slipping out through the fence, and the high humidity here makes them mildew. ;)

. . . Hey...anyone up for a snipe hunt?
Not yet. Season is not open here. The following is taken from the Louisiana hunting regulations: Migratory and Waterfowl | Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries

"Snipe season will open in the West Zone with the first segment from Nov. 3 to Dec. 10, and the second segment from Dec. 22 to Feb. 28. In the East Zone and Coastal Zones, the first segment will run from Nov. 3 to Dec. 3, with a second segment running Dec. 15 to Feb. 28. The daily bag limit is 8 and the possession limit is 16."
