Mike beat me to it ! Anyways, start thinkibg about hay equipment. I have 25 acres in Brighton Township and have had a lot of fun, success and tax deductions from putting up my own horse hay. If your daughter can stack hay as good as she did in the rental barn, you are ALL SET for hay labor.

Yah! I looked the loft over carefully, after that misadventure, for sure!

It might be a bit confusing, with my daughter into horses, and my step daughter into horses as well.

My wife and I are doing this farm with her daughter, Caitlin, and son-in-law, Matt. My daughter, Jennifer, who had the loft crash at the rented barn, recently bought 37 acres with a house and equipment barn. But Jennifer's new farm isn't set up for horses -- no fencing, no pastures, no horse barn, etc. So Jennifer will continue to rent the horse barns for a while until they can get their new place set up.

I thought I would clarify in case future posts about these saga's get any more involved.

When my kids were growing up, my first wife and I had 24 acres and there were no buildings or facilities, so we went through the evolution of building a house, driveway, barn, fencing, etc etc. Then of course all the care and feeding of the critters. My second wife has had horses but usually boarded them. So we have some sense of what we are getting into. But the kids agree, that day to day horse chores will be one of their contributions, and my wife and I will be backup.

I look forward to having my grandkids come out, as well as future grandkids from Caitlin and Matt, to explore the farm and critters with. Matt and Caitlin are ready to start their family, so we have that to look forward to.
