Any rating system on forums?

Is there any way to rate posts on the forums? It makes it easier to skim through long threads and focus on the most useful information.

If you guys want ratings... we'll add ratings. It's a forum setting. In the past people didn't use it but now we have a lot more people, and people are more familiar with the forum. I think it would be good.

The problem with these post rating systems is the encouragement of group thinking, cronyism, and false authority based on popularity. What makes this site valuable is the individual knowledge. When mindless clicking of "love this post" links takes over, that will be diminished. I'm against it. :thumbdown:

Until there is a method to qualify the rater of a post I don't see how ratings would be relevant...Suppose a knowledgeable member posted something and it was absolutely correct but for whatever reason less skilled members rated it poorly.....???? just a thought.

I can see 2 sides to it, I would be interested in a "Thanks" type system where if you find the post helpful you "Thank" the person for it without having to reply to the thread, but I would be against making that a "Aczlan has rep points" like we have for postcount as that has been a mess over on Arboristsite.
