Don't know if you have bought yet. Thermador & Kitchenaid use to be good.A top of the line mod. will set you back some $$. But, worth it. I agree with some others... Buy from an appliance store instead of box store

Appreciate all the replies. Still deciding and yes Kitchenaid is now on our list. I am in the process of researching the details on it. I like the SS Tub and the SS parts it has on it.

Just did a little researching on the Kitchenaid model and it has No Water Heating, which is a feature we really would like to have, and it got poor reviews. Evidently this model, KUDC101XSS, has some problems. With a high price, double of the Whirlpool we are considering, I expected more. The only reviews I could find so far was at the Lowes site. Lowes is the store where I actually first saw it at.

Did u check out the kenmore link I posted earlier? It's been great so far.

Were building a new home and have chosen mostly Kitchenaid Architect II appliances. So far we've picked a Kitchenaid refrigerator. double oven and dishwasher.....and a Wolf gas rangetop and a sharp Microwave.

According to our research the KA dishwasher ranks with the best of 'em. Seems like its within one decibel of the quietest and gets good results.

I'm pretty careful with the limited appliance product reviews you read on the internet.

Kitchenaid is just one of the many brands now owned by Whirlpool. I'd not expect to find much if any differences other than cosmetic and some "features" that might be available across the other whirlpool family brands.

I'll check the Kenmore out next. Appreciate the link.

As you know, we had great luck with our old one (lasted 23 years).

I too have heard good things about Kitchenaid. Maybe it is just this particular model I'm checking on? I had trouble finding reviews on it and finally found 8 at the Lowes site. A lot of the complaints were about the same things. I plan on looking for some more reviews though.

I know I'm preaching to the choir, here, but each kenmore will be a whirlpool, LG, etc, since there is no such thing as kenmore...but sometimes its less expensive.

And my wife and I have found many of the comments on dishwashers, washing machines, dryers, fridges, and freezers to often be the result of a poor install. So the machine may be great, but it wasnt height adjusted properly, or leveled... U all know what I mean. So, an appliance with a low rating may actually be great, but too many people didn't read the directions and...surprise... It leaks, it shakes, it makes a terrible noise, etc.

On some dishwasher installs a quiet machine becomes loud when the customer throws out the insulation...because he thought it was part of the packaging....

BTW, in my first post I mentioned how I doubled my insulation on my new dishwasher. My wife has been impressed.

If she doesn't find me hansom....at least I'm handy. :)

That's a smart idea. Like a wall oven.

madmax12, I just checked out the Kenmore from the posted link and it seemed to be pretty good, although it is for the Black model which has 11 reviews, but it didn't have the best reviews. The link also allowed me to click onto the "Stainless Steel" model, which is the one we prefer, and that one had it's own separate reviews. There were 23 of those reviews and all and all had worse reviews than the Black model did.

I know what you mean about the "poor installation" problems, but some of the problems have nothing to do with the installation, like the repeated complaint about the Touchy Controls and the Marking and Staining on the stainless steel door. Some of the other problems "could" be installation related, but a certain amount of poor reviews always makes me hesitate.

Hope you are having good luck with your DW.

So far, the Whirlpool WDF510PAYS has it, although we are still looking. We can't complain about the price as it is on sale and if we do go with Lowes, I'll get an extra 5% contractors.

Thanks for all the replies.

It is a bit of a drive for us(hour), but we have bought a number of appliances at the Sears "Scratch and Dent" warehouse in Sacramento. Long time ago, I got my parents a washer dryer set. Both had scratch and minor dent in the sides. Well, the washer/dryer were in the garage anyways, and when in place you could not see the dent. 1/2 off...

Same with a dishwasher later on.

Two years ago, my Grandmother needed a new fridge, stove, and washer/dryer. Got a nice Kenmore fridge, that was over $1200 usually, for $600. Minor dent in the side. And, you can't see it when the fridge is the kitchen anyways. Same for washer/dryer. In fact, the Fridge with a dent was no big deal; since getting it she bumps it all the time with her wheel chair anyways; it has many new scuffs and dings. There's plenty of room; she just get zipping around too quick in that wheelchair...

The only thing about going to the "scratch and dent" store, is you may not find all matching stuff.

whirlpool makes (or did) all kenmore appliances . Kitchenaid is a better grade (in my opinion) whirlpool. Thermador also makes a very good dishwasher. My next dw will be a thermador

Yes, I don't really trust CU and take what they say with a box of salt. CU is helpful on getting specs and maybe reviews... There ratings can be iffy. Back in the 80s I was looking to buy a car and checked CU's ratings. What was funny was that the Eagle, Chrysler and Mitsibushi sold the same car that was made in the same factory in Normal, IL. The ratings for the "Japanese" care were MUCH higher than the "American" car. The only difference between the cars was the badges.

Later,
Dan

CR is very anti-American car for sure.

As far as the DW goes, I lined the cabinet w foil faced iso board. 2 sides, back, and top. Also set the feet on fiberglass (G-10) pads over rubber as an isolator. Size approx 2x2 inches. Absolutely can not hear it, even in the same room!

It's a Kenmore. Breaks appox every 3 -4 years. Costs approx 40% of the original price to fix every time. Doubt a new one would be any better. Maybe worse.

I've been in the same house since '84. We've gone thru the original, a replacement about 1988 and are on our third dishwasher from about 2004. For the math impaired that's 28 years.

I think the first, which came with the house and was not new lasted about 4 years. The most recent, a Whirlpool, is going strong. Besides the combination of my big hands and it's extremely tight install it's been great.

But now I've got two more houses and an apartment to fill so I'm interested in this thread.

What's the best one to wash machine parts in? That's what I need for the apartment in my workshop.
