Mowing 62D mower on 2320 wont cut higher than 3"

/ 62D mower on 2320 wont cut higher than 3" #41
Im late posting this but i finally remembered to measure today

All the way up, so i can lock the mmm up, the upstop limiter is 3/8" from the frame

In the locked position the upstop limiter is 5/8" from the frame - so it drops 1/4"

Thanks, you are lucky you have the threaded yoke. I went to get the nonadjustable link today but they wanted $90 for it, I couldnt believe it, I expected to get it for nothing considering the work and effort I am going through to make this Lemon situation work according to the manual. The machine shop after all, wont be free.

Just incase it got lost in all the posts.. When i adjusted mine, I used the #23/#21 in the middle pic to adjust it so to use the 'lock' position..

Also in another post I warned about using the #3a/#3b (top pic) causing issues - BUT the issues I listed were wrong.. My issue was that when I adjusted them to be higher, i had trouble unhooking the MMM. The arms would not go down far enough to take the pressure off..

After I cut mine and added more threads I installed them and set them the highest. Same thing happened so I had to turn them down untill they just let off the tension. It still help alot to add more threads, just not as much as I would have liked.

I have finally added threads to my factory unthreaded mower link. $35 at a local Machine Shop. It is perfect now. I can get the 1/16th" clearance to the frame now and my knob is fully rotatable. In full up locked postion on the knob I get 5" cut height. John Deere Corporate was not at all helpful, they seem to be in "Denial" about this major discrepancy and had no explanation or acknowledgement of any kind.
Time to move on from this major distraction.

PS I did have to be constantly aware of making sure hydraulics lines and such didnt get hit by the linkages. I gently bent any away that might hit. I bet this is why they did away with the adjustable link, some people may have had them over adjusted and caused some damage.

So maybe there was a reason after all. :D

But you toughed it out.

But you toughed it out.

The reason is the offset in the left lifting arm, it is a blatant mistake, the offset is going in the wrong direction (up instead of down) What was suppose to be an offset to clear a hydraulic line actually will hit the line sooner because IT IS GOING IN THE WRONG DIRECTION.

I have a 5 year old 2320 with independent lift for the 62D. Had I seen this post sooner I could have helped solve this issue a little quicker. After breaking 5 of the 4A deck hangers by mearly slightly bumping fence posts ( thanks for casting this part and cutting the threads making it very weak in shear, instead of forging the parts and forming the threads JD!), my dealer realized that there was an update to this part. I installed new parts early last year and experienced the same issues with the low deck lift height . After much knashing of teeth when I realized JD did not verify their upgrade to these parts, I reworked the parts the same as Victory Pete by increasing the thread length and cutting the length of the left side hanger. I reported the issue to my dealer who submitted an issue report to JD. Did not get a response. If you have the independent lift, be sure to tie the hose out of the way. I assure you it will get sliced in half.

Thanks auger, what did you do exactly to the left lifting arm? (the one with the upside-down offset)

The deck is now mowing fine, at the appropriate height. I did have to make one last modification. The diagram that shows how high to set the anti scalping wheels was wrong, the way they say to set it leaves the wheels too high and you get some lines in the lawn. According to the manual the wheels should have .25" - .5" of clearance to the ground. At the recommended setting mine were about an inch. So I took a Sharpie and crossed of the highest setting for 4". It is now correct and I have about .25" clearance to my garage floor.

Victory Pete

I shortened the length of the replacement deck hanger not the lifting arm. The offset in the lifting arm did not allow the hanger bracket to be adjusted enough to lift the deck without binding and damaging the threaded end of the bracket.

Glad to see you are up and going.

Thanks, I am now happy with my 62D, it cuts great. It is a little noisier than my old 2305 and 54D. I still havent got any answers from John Deere corporate or my Dealer. I am glad I could bring it back to "Original Manual Specs", even though JD corporate was warning me not to make any "Modifications". Sometimes I have to question my faith in John Deere.

Now that it is getting hot here in the NE, I decided to raise my deck from 2 1/2" to 3", cant do it, the next step in the knob is in 1/4" increment, so I get 2 3/4", the next step increment is over an inch. So it goes from 2 1/2" - 2 3/4" - 4"! It never ends with this deck! I have thought about this for a while and I think if I extend the "Tab" that contacts the "Cam" on the mower height knob, I can get the 2 1/2" height in the Middle (Straight ahead) knob position. This is how it was on my 2305 with 54D. That way I will have 1/2" increments under and over the 2 1/2" center position. I am going to remove the floor pan and take a look and experiment with adding certain size shims under the "Tab" to see how much lower the deck will go. If I find a suitable length, I will have my machine shop extend the tab by that amount. I will of course have to now lengthen the lifting arm to get the full rotation of the knob, but I can because I added the threads to it.. Whew!

Personally i would cut it at 4"... It will look just as even, but just be healthier for the grass..

Okay, but that is not the point here.

Man VP that would drive me nuts with the height constantly fluxuating. Wonder why they (JD) didn't do it the way it is with the 2520. Rockshaft lever with that simple little stop. It never changes. Stops at the same place every time.:)

The height doesnt randomly change, it is just not linear, 2 1/2" is one notch before the high setting on the knob, the next setting is 2 3/4", then the next setting is 4". See the inconsistency?
I wondered how well the 2520 lift works. Well I already considered using the 3PH lever to set height, but the throw is only about 3 numbers. 6 is lowest and 9 is highest, no good, the action is too sensitive. Now if 1 was lowest and 10 was highest that would make more sense. It is just a bad design, there is a reason they made changes to the linkages so you cant attempt adjustments, so far "Mum is the word" from John Deere.

VP,so you're saying that you have what would be considered "preset" heights? You can't do anything in between the 2 3/4"- 4" settings?

I wondered how well the 2520 lift works

IMO,it works very well. It is basically infinite. From the ground all the way up, I can move it in 1/8" increments if I wanted to.:)

Yes I can go lower than 2 1/2", but higher I only have 2 3/4" and then 4". You are lucky that yours is so adjustable. You have the 2520, correct? You dont have this knob that doesnt work as it should.

The way I took it when I ordered mine, you can get either independent lift or rocker arm lift on the 2520's.
