Yeah I've seen all the cutters on there I was just curious what people actually get them for.

The prices on there always seem to vary so much.

An odd consideration, as the 2 products differ by like twice the cost. (with the flail mower being the 2x more version)

yep.. the flail mower is the common hype item he posts.

most commercial mowers here don't use them.. can't be competitive with a mower that costs sooooooooomuch more than a rotary.. and offers fewer tangible benefits.

i think he must derive income from them somehow.. ;)

I too was looking for a 7' or 8' rotary cutter.

I was looking for Bush Hog 297 or 3008, Rhino 284 or TR96, Land pride RCR2684 or RCR3596, and John Deere 709 or MX8.

With 85 PTO HP, 5000lb 3pt and 8000lb operating weight I don't think any would be a problem.

I expected to pay about $2000 more for dual spindle.

I was looking for 'like new" used. I finally found a Bush Hog 297 that the seller claimed had only 50 hours and was a trade for a larger cutter. The only thing I could see wrong with it was the cap was missing for the instruction manual tube. I got it for $1600

A. I do not hype flailmowers I simply made the suggestion that they were an option as the OP said he was mowing along roads.

b. most commercial mowers would not and do not buy the power needed to mow the massive areas they bid on every year AND the gear box rated and sized flailmower they would need-one case in point being the Hiniker 25 foot flailshredder with a 125 horsepower tractor and several european branded folding wide cut flail mowers of high high horse power.

c. flailmowers are competitive to rotaries in a face to face comparison and have been. I have given posted links to videos here on the forum that prove it many times.

d. When you buy high quality item you spend good money, and have an investment that will not spit out cutter blades at any time like a rotary cutter does, on many occasions (this is proven fact).

Saying that some flailmower salesmen, should not be selling flailmowers that are not capable of doing the work and specificly tell the client that they need a bigger model that is a shredder. Municipalities get into trouble with flail mowers simply because they bid out the mowing product rather than examining the issue to the last nut and bolt and spending money wisely for the long haul which is something that should be done by examining the issues of horsepower and mower width for the known sqaure area to be mowed in a given time frame of 8 to 10 hours for a five day or four day work week.

e. The quality of cut with a flail mower is as good or better than rotary cutter.

f. I do not obtain in any form of income from discussing flailmowers versus rotary cutters nor have I ever done so, and I find your comments regarding this towards me extremely distastefull regarding this.

A.. you DO hype flailmowers. searching your post history proves that beyond a shadow of a doubt.

none of the rest of your comments are applicable to what I said...

with that hp.. a 10' 3pt would have been no problem.. and a 10-12' batwing easy.. and a 15' in light to medium material too.!

I would like to have a second cutter too! The 7' for my trails and larger for open areas! Are the 10'-12' batwings single wing or twin wing? A friend has a JD MX10 semi mounted and he told me he might down size to the MX8. I just did not want a 10' as my only cutter.

I could find uses for a ditch/bank mower too! :D

Can get a 10ft with a single wing or the 12ft twin wings. The 12ft batwing is pretty high but I think well worth the extra money over the flat-deck like I have. We have a 6ft 3point shredder that never gets used,I always just hook up to the 8ft. Between having the 8ft flat-deck,the 12ft flat-deck and the 15ft batwing,I hardly ever hook up to the 12ft flat-deck anymore, the 6ft isnt even an option just need to sell it.

I've seen a v wing and singe wing/hammerhead offset 10, I've seen v wing and bat wing 2/3 segments 12'ers.
