hi all.

long-time reader, first-time poster.

i finally bought my BX25 last fall and the 50hr. service is approaching. i found several informative links about doing this myself, but i was surprised not to find information anywhere about torque specs for relevant plugs.

anyone have torque specs for front axle drain/bleed plugs, oil drain plug, transmission drain plug, transmission strainer, etc... ?

also, should the washers on these plugs be replaced? i'm largely going by this link, which is great, but doesn't mention them:
http://www.messicks.com/Articles/KubotaBX-Service.aspx

would be much appreciated.

thanks.

Look a little deeper in your Owner's Manual... There's a section in there that has the torque values for each type of bolt that is used on the tractor. Match the markings on the bolt head to the values in the chart and you're good! ;)

Hela,
I'm no big time wrench, having said this, I would tell you to forget the torques specs and just use feel and common sense. Most of the bolts involved in the 50-hour maintenance have little meat to bite on. So if you go cranking em, you'll either strip em or breakem. And besides there isn't a lot of room to use a torque wrench.
I would also advise you to this this type of filter wrench for the oil filter. Using a ratchet extension, you can remove the filter without having to remove the loader, the guard, and the cowl.
Good luck.

No problem, we all do stuff like that and if someone tells ya they don't, they're fibbing!

And as I think on it, some things you might want to gather up...

1) As AStanton says above, that type of oil filter will greatly increase your chances of success! But, have a big screwdriver handy to punch through the filter if needed to get it off. They install the filter, then paint the block, so it can be a bugger to get off...

2) Big pan for your hydraulic fluid. I use one of the small mortar mixing tubs, it's about 2 foot by 3 foot, probably stands 8 or 9" tall. That will hold all the fluid as you drain it and it's got a small enough footprint so that you can slide it under the tractor.

Other than that, just take your time and things will go well. I'm at 70+ hours now, so I must not have messed too much stuff up! :D

I say an well versed BX25 owner w/ a hand for making videos should make
a comprehensive BX25 50 Hour Service video! It will get a LOTS of hits!
Anyone know anyone at Messicks? They seem to like to make videos,
a good oppurtunity it would be for a company, plugging themselves
repetitively throughout the video w/ signs in the background...
