B7100 Restore Project Has Begun

Its getting there. With a few more hours of working the shape, a coat of high build primer, a good wet sanding, then a coat of 3M Rocker Panel Spray on the front panel to give a slight texture that will hide the imperfections, it will be ready for the final orange I HOPE! Its time to rototill and I want to use the Kubota in full dress to break it in good. Give the Ford 1210 a rest this season.

It's together. Ordered the rectifier, should be here Friday. Gathering the parts to install a temp gauge. Will order the Honda driving lights that 6mmbr installed in his B7100 and install them using the brackets that he fabricated and so graciously sent me. Thanks again 6mmbr. Had to borrow 2 knobs from my salvage Ford 1210 for the throttle and HL shifter. They fit well but aren't red. Will decide which decals I want to replace and order them soon and hope to find a inexpensive seat cover. Also used the Ford top link which has grease fittings because the one that was on the Kubota could not be freed up due to rust.

Awesome. That looks great! Your work is an inspiration to me to get off the fence (and my duff) and commit to restoring our recently acquired B5100, The Little Bull never ceases to surprise me with how much it can do with just 12hp. Started keeping hrs vs fuel consumption records as that has me very curious.

If you're still looking to replace that seat cover, I was able to get a complete replacement seat from Messicks for our B at a very reasonable price - $95. All that's missing is the Kubota decal on the back. The seat pan on ours was heavily rusted around the bottom lip and bent just forward of the support bushings - I suspect from a former owner standing on it.

Looking forward to seeing some pictures of that puppy at work!

I've been out using mine and have been pleased with it. I have to figure out how to adjust the amount of 3 point drop - right now its all or none. I think there is a piece I'm missing that allows it to set down only so far.

Does yours have the stop adjustment on it like is shown in the pictures ? My lift does not work like any other tractor lift that I have used before. I am having a difficult time learning how to work it.

Put 4 hours on it today with the 48" Bushog brand tiller and the 42" bushog. The machine did well but the engine temp does concern me. When working hard it runs 200 to 220 degrees but shows no signs of overheating. Normal working temp is around 190. It used about 1/2 gallon of fuel in 4 hours of work. The machine is very light in the front without the loader or wheel weights on it. Did not have the camera with me to get any working photos today.

I know some people say it's only a tractor, and while I certainly don't mind getting them dirty, I do like to see someone who has taken time to keep theirs in as good a shape as possible, and not just mechanically.

That's really great fuel consumption!

On Friday I built a counterweight for the front after trying to keep the fronts on the ground while tilling.

Does yours have the stop adjustment on it like is shown in the pictures ? My lift does not work like any other tractor lift that I have used before. I am having a difficult time learning how to work it.

We have had some difficulty using ours. Very hard to feather - it can be done, but takes a lot of control and very hard to do while the machine's moving. The 3pt squeals like a pig when it lifts, even with nothing on the hitch. Sounds like either a bad clutch surface or heavy cavitation. Have to go look at the manual as I'm not really sure how it works.

Mine also does the squeal thing if I try to partially lift an implement.

Used it today to plant 1/2 acre of taters. Until I figure out the problem with engine temps while using the PTO the Ford 1210 will do the tilling and the 7100 will do the laying off and hilling using the hiller/layoff plow that I built in 2010.

I notice that the B7100 runs hot and has a lot of black smoke when I run the mower on "high" pto, but when on "low" works great and goes forever. Runs about 210-220 degrees and no smoke. Cuts through high wet grass like butter. The JD with a 709 on the back will cut through tree trunks but not as agile when in the woods grooming trails. Overall, it is a great tool and a good compliment to the big boy.
