WHAT DID YOU DO TODAY ?

Checked over tractor that has sat for a while due to warm weather, rain and soft ground. Winter storm watch for tonight:D It is 40 degrees out and they predict 6" (Whoopy) overnight. Charging battry, check tire pressure, topped off tank with additive, wod pile brought up for week, etc.
Now I know we will get 1" that will melt in 42 hours later on Saturday. Why is it when you are prepared and looking for a little playtime under the guise of work it fizzles out.
All winter I have had plans to play by building a couple of nice snow hills and track for the 4 wheelers for wife and I, only to get a couple inches that melt before gravel drive can take a nice set for easy plowing. This is MI common' now!

Well winter finally hit here in Southwest Va. on Sunday. We got about 7 inches of the white stuff in about 10 hours, so I was able to try out my electric assist front bucket and rear grader blade on my craftsman garden tracor. After about 30 minutes of working the front bucket actuators I had to make adjustments to the bracket that the lift actuator was mounted on. Then every thing was smooth sailing for the rest of the day. This thing was so much fun moving snow. I was able to clear my long drive way and the side of the road where my mail box is. Love my craftsman 6500.

Last winter had more snow and had to pay for a plow. Picked up JD855 with plow, cab and heat. I have been prepared all winter with only 1small storm. Guess the investment payed off

Fed the chickens.

Brought the beef we had slaughtered from the butcher. Put half in the freezer and delivered the other quarters to the people that bought them. 140 mile round trip.

Filled some mudholes in the driveway with gravel.

Today I discovered you can straighten bent steel posts with an anvil and a sledge hammer that's been shortened. I bought 35 nice long and heavy steel posts at an auction--cheap--since they were all bent. Anyway, here's some before and after photos. The first photo is mildly bent and then straight in the second photo. Third photo shows a post with a double "S" bend that came out OK and is in the fourth photo.

The 5th and 6th photo shows my avil setup and shortened sledge (6 lb?). It took seven whacks to straighten a mild curve and at times I had to lay the post between anvilsto get that final swweping curve out. Last photo is 35 straight posts and 32 were bent when I started. Took maybe 45 miutes.

Started off with the super fun job of hosing out the septic tank filter. Happier times were slathering the snowblower with used oil and finally getting it off the back the tractor.

Flew back rom the NRA National Convention in St Louis MO. The boss invited me and a couple of co-workers to go with him this year. Man, having you own turboprop must really be nice! I know it's nice to hitch a ride in one :)

Planted shrubs... Used the FEL as a mixing tub for the black, organic rich soil from bottomland and rich brown soil collected in the forest during road construction. My wife likes clean soil so I built a screen box over the FEL and hand shovel into it. Takes out the roots, rocks and all. Leaves nice clean dirt. I use hardware cloth for the screen. I filled an extra loader for tomorrow. We use the dirt in a few dozen pots with flowers along our mile long drive. The challenge is flowers the deer leave alone.

It followed you home?

I'm taking the wrong way home:(

I decided to bolt up ripper tooth on BX24 and take out a stump from a thirty five year old Blue Spruce I had to cut down last winter (Overgrew house & lost lower branches). Forgot to take off my thumb and in my overzelous plunge root cutting managed to shove Thumb bracket against cylinder 90 degree hydraulic fitting and snap it off.:( I just finished fluid & filter changes last week and could not easyout steel threads from cylinder port. Decided to drill out threads after heating and swearing failed. Retapped threads, flushed cylinder and then could not find a replacement 5/16 x 1/4NPT 90 degree fitting this evenning. Heading to Warren Pipe in a.m.
Oh Yeah, stump is free and ready for truck & chain. Gotta love that ripper tooth.:)
