Good advice with loader bolts. The loader manual says to retorque every 25 hrs and my dealer recommends using blue loctite. I found a few slightly loose(1/16 turn?) over several checks. I don't have a backhoe but I suppose those are critical to watch too.

I also found a couple of front wheel bolts turned very slightly over four or five checks.

I don't know if the filters are still as tough to get off as before (my tractor was March of 2011), but mine were crazy. The hydraulic filter buckled and the entire engine oil filter housing turned when removing it.

When draining hydraulic oil also remove the drain plugs in the final drives (they aren't shown in the manual).

HEHE... i missed the 2 rear final drive drains also on my 50 hour change.... cant believe they missed it in the manual. Saw it later, but what the heck. ill get it next time.

The original oil and hst and hyd filters were PAINTED onto the tractor and thats why there so **** hard to pop the first time. I followed the instruction on the new filters to the letter as far as tightening, and when i did the 100 hour oil change, the filter came off real easy.

i was about to call Arnold Schwarzenegger to remove the HST filter at the 50 hour mark.

One thing I am dumbfounded on is how to get all the oil out of the rams? It's pretty much impossible by just the drain holes isn't it?
I just assumed that tiny but of oil gets mixed in with the new stuff.

rams??? you mean the hydraulic cylinders?

i wouldn't worry about those. Its all filtered oil. that's kinda overkill.

Yes. Sometimes I call em rams. Sometimes Hyd cylinders. :)

Ive been owning and leasing equipment for many many years, and i have never drained the fluid out of the hydraulic lines and cylinders.

Im not even sure how you could do this without unhooking all the lines, and this is just opening an invitation for dirt contamination problems.

Don't worry about trying to drain oil from all the hydraulic cylinders, you will be replacing about 8 gls. of oil in the trans/reservoir. This will be more than adequate to resupply any deteriorated aditives in the gallon or so that is in the rest of the system. The 50 hr. change is targeted to drain and remove any possible casting residue and metal fillings from initial gear wear in.
Just a tip on the hydraulic filters, make sure you have or buy good quality filter wrenches. My engine oil and hydrostatic filter (filter by your right foot) were not too bad, but I take my right rear wheel off then using both a socket wrench on the bottom of the hydraulic fitler and a heavy duty band wrench with cheater bar it was tough to get it off.
Had to take the wheel off for enough leverage with cheater bar to get it to move.

Ya that filter underneath looks like it was installed before paint. It's could be trouble. :)

Speaking of loader bolts. What did you folks tighten them too? The smaller ones, the six front ask for 93-112ft lbs... The rearward five which are larger ask for 149-172ft lbs. What are you all tightening them too?

I just installed my loader and put 100ft lbs on the small ones and 130ft lbs on the bigger ones. That's extremely tight IMO. SO much so I thought I broke a bolt it got a lot easier at the end... I freak for a second. Went and asked a neighbor to borrow his torque wrench. I had a rental. He didn't have one and came over. He loosened the bolt maybe 1/4 turn maybe just an 1/8 and then put it back and said it looks ok. I was just scared. If it had cracked it would have snapped when he loosened and tightened it. I think the torgue wrench was probably just about to click and that's why I felt that...

Anyway, I have about 4-5 lock washer seperating, I'll probably have to put fresh ones on there... I wonder if the book isn't asking for to much torque. I'm not going any higher I'll check them every five hours to start out...

My second ( 250 hr.) Hydraulic filter change was as tough as the first so it aint just the factory paint job holding those monsters on. Liberal use of WD 40 , a belt type oil wrench (with proper technique) finally did the job.
