Tractor
John Deere 790
I have a 790 tractor that is damaged and needs to be replaced. I know the 7 backhoe can be transfered to the 3005. Can the 70 loader also be switched from the 790 to the 3005?

Thanks

I'm not sure if it will, it seems like it should. If it were me I would sell it and put the money towards a new loader with the quick attach. The 70 is a good loader but the new ones are better IMO.

I was trying to save a few dollars, but maybe I will see what I can get for the 70 and get the 3005 with the 300. Thanks for the reply.

I was surprised at what they bring used. Just start checking craigslist and e bay. I was thinking of selling my 430 for the 300.

Wouldn't the standard 300 loader be a downgrade in performance?

You need to go to a dealer and look at how the 300 loader mounts to the 3005's frame.
Physically, there's little difference between your 790 and the 3005. However, the mounting hardware and such might be a sticking point...especially the hole pattern dimensions and location for the loader masts.

My 430 is pretty whipped and sloppy. I like the new mounting on the 3/400 series. I've not looked at numbers but it probably is. The 430 is stout. But I would like new.

I like the new method of mounting too...not sure I'd wanting to pay the $4K for a new loader though!
Why not replace the bushings/pins in your 430?

I started a thread a while back about it. Dfkrug showed how to adjust the arms. I tried it and even replaced the mounts that the arms sit on. No luck. It was just abused and I think rolled on one side that tweaked it. So it's not really the pins.

FrankX,

How did your JD790 get damaged? It it a complete loss? Are you going to part it out yourself or sell the whole tractor to somebody to part out? Some of the parts (i.e. front rims) are not made anymore and are hard to come by. You might make some extra $$ toward your new tractor if you part it out yourself on craigslist or ebay.

Hi Tracot Pilot,

The tractor was damaged during the June 1 tornado in Massachusetts. Large red oak went straight across the middle of the machine, fortunately the loader and the backhoe are OK. The insurance company owns the machine, but I have the 70 loader and the 7 backhoe. I'm looking at the 3005, but have spoken to two dealers, both say they "think" it will accept the 70 loader, but until they try they won't know. I'm almost ready to give it a try and if it fails I'll see what I can get for the 70 loader. I have scanned Craigslist but have'nt seen any to get any idea what they go for.

Was trying to link it on my phone and can't. Just google John Deere 70 loader for sale. It came up on equipmenttrader.com. They wanted $3,000

For that kind of money, it's worth buying a new loader. I think FrankX would do well getting $2K for his #70.

Yup. Was thinking I could get close to $2500 for the 430 and move on

The tractor is quoted at $13,700.00 plus tax and the 300 loader is $3,150.00 plus tax. Does that sound about right to you? The dealer has the damaged machine, they pull it off the property and did an evaluation for the insurance company. I bought the original 790 from them, and feel they have helped me getting through the situation as far as the tractor is concerned, so I feel somewhat obligated unless these prices are way off.

Thanks,

FrankX
