I finally got my Bushhog Squealer SQ172. My problem is I don't have an Owner/Operator Manual for my 05 L48. I've searched the forum but can't find the specifics of how it's done.

Anybody done it or have an owner's manual with the info on how it's done?

From what I can see by examining the connections, it seems the stabilizers have to be dropped and the bucket too in order to stabilize the unit and take some of the load off. I don't want to be half way and get stuck.

I'd like to knock some tall grass down this weekend. If not, I guess the hoe will see action.

Thanks

I don't have the L48 but I do have a B26. There is a chance that the hookup is the same. I only did it two or three times myself, but it was pretty simple. You drop the stabilizers, just so they hit the ground, no real downward pressure. You then lower the dipper arm and boom arm so that they are sitting in sort of an "L" shape, with the bucket on the ground. You now apply downward pressure to the dipper arm, until you release the pressure on the two connecting pins. Pull the pins and then slowly pull the dipper arm back up. The backhoe will detach itself. Now all you need to do is disconnect and reconnect the hydraulic lines.

As far as the 3PH, I can't help you there. Mine is still brand new.

I didnt get a manuel with mine either and it is a bit different than my L2800. You don't have to pull the pins at all, just release the locking pin with the bucket on the ground, tip the boom down a bit so it opens the clamps on the top pins, lift up on the stabilizers and drive forward a bit so you can disconnect the hoses. It is quicker than having to pull the pins.

I suspect that removing the hoe on your L48 is very similar to my L39. I have taken mine off quite a bit and it is pretty easy. First, it helps to have a level area. I do it on the cement floor in my barn. It is pretty much as Carl says, you drop the stabilizers so they almost touch. With the bucket curled and dipper all the way in, lower the boom until the bucket links touch the ground. I then get a hold of one of the levers on the pins and slowly lower the boom until I can feel the pin come free. Then you remove the pins. Now raise the boom to lift the lower pins out of the supports. Keep an eye on the three hoses going from the hoe to the tractor to make sure the do not get caught on anything. I then push or drive the tractor ahead just enough so the lower pins clear the supports - be mindful of the hoses. Now you can lower the boom and raise stabilizers until the hoe and stabilizers are resting on the ground. Turn off the tractor and cycle all the hoe levers to make sure there is no trapped pressure in the hoe. Clean off the caps for covering the quick disconnects. With tractor shut off, disconnect the hoses. Be sure to have a rag in hand to catch oil drips. Pull out the two levers on the back of the tractor before you start it or you will dead head your pumps.

The three point is pretty easy to install. There is a bolt to remove on each lower pin. I connect the lifting links first so that they support the arm while I slide the lower pins back in.

Good luck and happy brush hogging!

Thanks guys.
I don't have pins, I've got a lever on each side to pull. I found a video from Messick's on Youtube removing a hoe from a B24 or 25, (can't recall). I guess the levers get pulled at the time the pins are removed in the video. Stonehauler, I think ours are pretty similar.
I'll try it this weekend. Hope I don't lose any digits

What two levers are you talking about?

On the L39, there are two levers on the back of the tractor that slide in and out. One routes the main hydraulic pump to the three point or the hoe, the other dumps the swing pump to tank or routes it to the hoe. The M59 has the same type levers, but I am not sure about the L48.

Boux your directions are right there on the side of the backhoe. I wish I would have had them on mine. Did you get it off ok?
