bp fick - Congratulations on solving your noise problem. Thats awesome.

I played with the shaft boot again and put it in several different positions. The chatter is still present in both 2wd and 4wd.
Well it was worth a shot.

Let us know what you find out ...

I agree with the high rev and multiple contacts harmonics of both coming into play.

I noticed the noise when I let my tractor run to warm up early this spring. It would start to make the noise in question after it got warm. I do believe it is a bypass issue, because the tractor was idling and not moving at the time. Not a big issue, because the HST creeping is not very bad, and the lift capacity appears to not be effected.

That's the odd part. A couple guys report "creeping". My tractor does NOT creep one iota. Have no idea whether "creeping" and the bypass and for that matter, the chattering are related to one another.

I've a whole field to go cultivate. So I'll see if my "fix" worked and report back later.

I had a similar issue with a BX1830 and got down to the root cause(S) being a flow priority valve not delivering adequate charge pressure, and a shot HST motor. The update is here http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/...16-hyraulics-question-2.html?highlight=bx1830

I'm not trying to insight a riot but does it seem like a good number of complaints are showing up on here about compact kubota HST's right around the 300+ hr mark? If you do a search there are a noticeable number listed under various names such as chatter, noise under load, loss of power, etc. This seems kind of ridiculous to see any at under several thousand hours unless the tractor was run without oil. The tractor I have was babied and it really seems like perhaps kubotas normal bulletproof engineering hit a kink on the compact's HST.

My 4240 had an odd noise kind of like the one you guys are talking about. I figured it was normal but noticed it seamed to change a little when I put weight on the entry side fender. I finally started looking around and found one of the ROPS mounting bolts was just barely touching the back side of the fender, the other side hads plenty of clearance. I slightly bent the sheet metal and the noise is gone. It's amazing how something simple can sound so bad.
