DS vs DK

this is the joys of same name but being different models across the world, over here our DS series is basically the old LX series but with new hoods! DK series looks the same though, still a really good step up to a CK!

My DS4510HS Workshop manual lists the engine model as a 4A220LWE however the EPA Decal on my 2010 manufactured engine refers to it as a 4A220LWM.

From what I can see all the specs are identical.

Also the PFG E Brochure claims that the new model DS5010 (which is actually the 45HP DS4510HS) has a flippable pto cover. Is this cover available to other models ?

Model number are, shall we say a bit 'fluid' in Australia, so I wouldn't be surprised if they are actually the same engine, what I would suspect is the workshop manual would be for the E series, where as your machine probably has a later M revision? I'll check when I get to work, See if I can find anything out.

The back story of the DS4510HS, is they (PFG) had ordered a HST version when the container arrived, and they opened it they found the HS version.
Following on a Year now, it has been such a popular model that they have decided to keep it on the lineup, however it has caused a bit of confusion being called an HS, hence they have re-named it to the DS5010. I'll see what I can find out about the Flippable PTO cover, as the DS4510HS & DS5010 are identical machines, it should be possible to order as a part. The DS5010 hasn't actually started arriving in the country yet (as far as I was Aware) but I'll see what I can find out.

Oooops! had a closer look early this morning with my flashlight and the decal does say LWE.

Sorry I couldn't advise earlier but I bogged the tractor in the edge of the dam and have been digging it out of quicksand and towing all morning. Muddy but no damage.

A good initiation for my shiny 6 week old Kioti

Thanks for the heads up on the DS5010 pto cover. It's great to have the local angle on these things.

LWE, well that makes a bit more sense, however I checked all our documentation on that model and it shows as the LWM, however the parts manuals only show the first part, i.e. Doesn't mention the "LW?" anywhere, so I would say it's just a series mark.

Getting bogged is always fun! Think my best attempt was with our tractor crossing a new culvate we has just has built, ended up bogging it 6 times, each time the tractor would slide a bit closer to the edge!
But eventually got it out!

Had a look into the PTO cover I think it looks like an error on the brochure, the new website has only just gone live, but currently is just a copy of the brochure, so from what I can see it's fixed, however I don't have one in my yard so can't check the machine. Have sent a email to the rep to see what he can tell me. Can you post a picture of the cover on yours, if it is what I think it is there is a fairly easy mod if you want to hinge it.

Just a final comment on the DS 45.It comes with a big enclosed strong metal toolbox behind the seat; far superior to the the EX series plastic toolbox I have seen ( not sure about DK series) and a really useful feature for me.

Not sure if it's the same on all the DKs but on my DK40SE it has a cheap little plastic toolbox bolted down behind the seat. I plan on replacing it with something a little more industrial strength but it's enough for now to carry some extra pins and basic tools.

Can someone post a pic of the beefier toolbox on the DS? It didn't stick out at me when I looked at them last.

the cab model has a kinda cheap plastic toolbox under the left step. down pretty low.
Im planing on desiging a steel box to mount somewheres that can carry a logging chain plus assorted tools, pins, etc. may become a winter project though...hard to find the time right now

I did a lot of research into which tractor and made up my mind to get the CK35. When I compared dealers, I was given the opportunity to buy the DK35 for the price of the CK35 at the first dealer. I went with it. I can not say one bad thing about upgrading to the larger framed DK. It has had the power to do anything I put it up to. I have moved boulders up to the size of the bucket and it proved to be a powerhouse of a machine. The larger frame makes working in the woods feel a bit safer and the extra horsepower made up for the upgrade to the HST.

They must have changed the DK40se toolbox. Mine (a 2007) has a metal toolbox behind the seat. I find it is too small however and have been on the lookout for something bigger to bolt down back there.
