hey fellas

i have a question i'm hoping one of you guys can help me with. i have a tractor and the two batteries went dead over the winter. i want to charge them up but i'm wondering if i should charge them linked in parallel like they are in the tractor, or if i should charge them individually?

my battery charger is a DieHard 71227
my batteries are two generic 775 12v 700cca

thanks for any advice.

I would charge them separately. It's possible that one of them (or both) is damaged. I would also trickle charge them for a week, I've had good luck restoring batteries this way.

Being that your charger has smarts, I would let it do its thing charging the batteries separately, than the charger will evaluate each battery. Later you may connect them in parallel to top them off or float charge them.

I have two 12 volt batteries as well only mine are in series. The guy I bought my tractor off said the batteries needed replacing but being stubborn frugal or what ever I decided to see if I could recondition them.

I charged them seperately one at a time. my charger has a charge indicator and when it got 100% I would switch to the other battery, when it was done I would go back to the first and it would have dropped to say 75% and I would charge it again and I kept at it (several days until the batteries stayed at 100% when the other was done.

I have had no issues with batteries at all since.

Try it:thumbsup:

Are you sure your batteries are connected in series? I don't know of any JD's with a 24 volt system. Of course I've not been around that many JD tractors.

i would charge them seperately.the odds are after charging youll have to buy 2 new batteries.

This is what you need to bring back batteries or really extend the life.
