How do I keep the shaft in the front mount from moving foward. It doesn"t have flats for the set screws, It sure does bend the pto shaft when it comes apart!!

How about a model number/tractor size to better answer your question.
For what it is worth... On my QH (L2180) for a L3130 tractor the snowblower side has a 1/4" key with set screw plus a 1/4" pin. The PTO is married to the blower. On the other end the housing needs to be pulled back so the locking balls can be release to slide over the splined shaft.
The set screw does not lock on the shaft, but on the key.

It does not need flats. Be sure it is in the proper position and tighten the set screw up good and tight.
My guess it that whoever assembled it at the dealer forgot to tighten them up!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There should be NO end pressure on that shaft. If there is it is not put together properly.

You do have the manuals, right???? If not, get them from the dealer, the shaft has a specific location and is measured off the sub-frame and varies for different tractors.
