I did a search on here with no applicable results so thought I may as well ask.

I had a previous mishap where I lifted the three point hitch and put my PTO shaft into my PTO extender, extender into cover and ultimately bending the PTO shaft ever so slightly. When everything was disassembled, upon dry fitting it back up, I noticed there there is 1/50" play in and out with the PTO shaft. That is without seal and without fluid in there. Is that normal?

The tractor is a B2650, and the movement is limited by the bearings (part 020) on the shaft that turns the PTO shaft, coming from the front (part 010 in the photo). The photo only shows one bearing on the rear of part 010, but I can confirm that there is one in the back that is placed in the PTO cover, and one at the front of the gear on it, which is placed into the large housing (transmission), so it cannot move back or forward.

I cannot see any missing, broken, or chipped teeth on any gear, no hairline cracks, bends in the housing, and the rear cover, PTO shaft, and bearings are new now.

Sorry for the mishap sir. I’ve owned a lot of equipment with substantial wear on it and that little play never hurt anything. I think you are good and maybe the bend will not vibrate

Placing the old bearing and shaft in the cover and spinning it, it is bent. Not a whole lot, but the naked eye can tell it is just off. Repeating that with the new bearing and shaft, it appears to spin true. So I did end up bending the shaft in the previous mishap as well.

I threw the seal in last night, and the play has reduced even less, so I would like to think should be good to go once I fill it up with fluid.

And lesson learnt, just buy a longer PTO shaft instead of an adapter you forget about on there.

As others have stated, "Buy once, cry once."
