Tire chain recomendations

Guess I could buy some cheap ones. I hate to do that although I am getting real tired of sliding around our 1/2 mile long gravel drive. We tend to always get a little ice before the snow. Guess I should not have waited so long to start looking seems like I make it thru the winter and then on to other projects. I found some studded aquilien talons but i help a neighbor with there blacktop and would hate to tear it up.

There have probably been more pairs of tire chains sold in the last month in the eastern US as in the last 5 years combined. Within the last week I have had to call as many as 3 suppliers for a given size, and had to alter my customer's expectation of chain style to find a suitable match. If you are looking for chains right now, you may need a little flexibility and patience

If you're going to be working on asphalt, the Tellefsdals are going to be equally as bad as the Talons, both are liable to leave some nasty marks on the surface, possibly crater it if they get to spinning. Mine will chew down through two inches of solid ice and into frozen ground enough to leave a pothole in a very short time.

Doesn't much matter what style of chains, if the operator lets the wheels spin enough on asphalt, pavement damage is going to happen.

So...I give up. Witht he snow we have this year, I am thinking about breaking down and getting some chains.

I run Ag tires so here are my questions:

Duo-chain style I assume? V-bar style worth the extra cost? What about Canadian chains?

Double rings get my vote. I've run them on R1's and R4's with great success. The traction on snow and ice, (and mud) is fantastic.

How about these? you don't need much clearance for them on the inside and they are pretty aggressive without tearing up pavement. They tell you to leave them loose, not sure why, but I did. They are light and easy to put on. Think you can get them here. Buy Tire Chains & Snow Chains from the Traction Specialistsｩ

bstrom yes those are the ones I was trying to find but it seems everyone is out of stock. As far as I can tell trygg, tellefsdal and aquiline make that style.

With the snow forecasts this year, I'm not surprised...especially after the relatively mild winters we had from 2003/2004 until 2009/2010. The manufacturers/resellers aren't going to stock a bunch of product they can't sell.
After the double whammy we had on the east coast in Feb 2010, I tried to get chains...nope, not available. Ended up getting them in May 2010.
Also, seems like most CUTs use the same size tires (for a given class of tractor). I'd guess most mid-sized CUTs with R-4 tires use a 19.5-15.

So, looks like you might have to tough it out until Spring, but good luck to you in your search for chains!
