Here's a modified landscape rake my buddy used to clear his driveway. He came by and cleared my place. He just bolted a 2x10 to the rake. Improvised but works.

Here's a video of him using it:

Loved the video!

It's great watching old tractors at work. However, the whole time, i was thanking God for a hydrostatic transmission, 4WD and a loader....

The dogs were a hoot.

Thanks for posting.

Good way to use what you have but he could have done it in 1/4 the time by driving the tractor forward and allowing the tires to bite. He spent more time spinning then he did moving.

The videographer is quite the natural...I am impressed.

That lab pup was so typically a goofy dog...it looked natural... of course that's a natural state for a lab pup.

The use of the board is fabulous...necessity is quite the mother...

And finally for my last quip, HST certainly looks like the ideal option after watching the back and forth with the clutch... at the 8 minute mark I starting to feel ...
to feel ...
sorry ...
gotta run ...:D

Yeah, a lot of shifting going on. He definitely bought it for it's nostalgic appeal! He's hoping it's the start of his collection.:)

Another thing that may help is having the right chains. The ones on there he got for free off an old fire truck that was getting scrapped. A majority of the cross links end up falling between the lugs of the ag tire. But the price was right so he figured he give them a shot!:D

That rig, just as it is, will move more snow than a modern tractor of today. Why, because he would still be trying to get a new one started because it just clicks or a fuse is blown for no apparent reason and has a code reading of some fictious number or yada, yada, yada.

Aw, somebody made me sad over on YouTube.:( They actually gave me a thumbs down dislike for the video. The man is just having fun on a vintage John Deere tractor! What's not to like!

Would that setup work as well (or better?) with the tractor moving forward and dragging the rake?

It sure looked like it worked fine in the video. Did you fall asleep or something in the middle?

Yeah, I think I may have made the video a bit too long.
Either that or I needed some explosions and car chases to keep 'em interested!:D

I disable comments or rating on my Youtube videos, it's amazing how stupid/rude/nasty they can be... :confused2: It was cool to see it but I love the sound of the old tractor

Great idea. I passed up a good deal on a rake because i didn't think I would use it much. May go back and see if it's still available. I use the FEL for most of my removal but would love the ability to go forward and shoot out to the side. And still be able to use the rake the few times I would need it.

I completely understand enjoying old equipment, as well as using what you have. I am sure he enjoyed it, and I would too. But, I would hate to have to rely on that setup to clear much snow. Meaning more than a couple of inches.

I don't blame the tractor though. The biggest problem is that the 2x10 tends to just ride on top of the snow. Weight or an edge of some sort would probably go a long way.

Yeah, he wants a frame mount front plow and he's got a line on a FEL for it. We just don't normally have this much snow! We're shoreline Ct. A shovel and a four wheel drive vehicle usually plenty.
