Oil & Fuel EZ Way to Refuel?

All I can tell you is what the packaging says. It can be used to transfer diesel. It is designed for submersion. Cleanliness will be up the user as with any other system. The input end has a cap which can be removed and modified for a filter if you wish to do so but my tractor has 2 filters before the fuel reaches the engine so why would I do this? I don't use dirty fuel containers and I assume I purchase clean fuel. This is my solution to the refueling problem; it doesn't need to be yours. I just thought I would put it out there for thought since we all have this problem and this method works for me.

This is what I use. Once the fuel can is above the tank (it does have to be up there with this setup) you stick the long end of the siphon into the can, put the end with the primer bulb into the tank opening, close the valve and squeeze the primer until you get fuel flow, then open the valve.

If you want to stop the flow mid-fill, close the valve.

The 3400 has the filler on top of the hood, awkward to get positioned securely enough to pour a full 5 gallon can of diesel. This empties the same can in about 3 minutes.

I wasn't trying to dis your choice but just wanted to address some of the trade offs. It is the only electric system I've seen that works with 5 gallon containers but it does pose a problem keeping the pump from collecting dust or dirt while not in the container. How do you keep it clean? Maybe store the whole thing in a big sealed Rubbermaid container?

My solution to the glug-glug. Get a grommet with a 1/4 hole in the middle, drill a hole in the can to fit the grommet and stick a 1/4" bolt in the grommet to plug the hole. Pull the bolt when you fill up and diesel gushes out both holes in the spout.. the one designed for the fuel to come out and the one designed to let air in. Empties a 5 gallon can like they used to before the epa got hold of them, maybe even better cause the old cans didn't have an air vent that big. Cell phone pic.. sorry.

For something cheap that works , look at magic siphon on the internet . I have sold hundreds of these . They are simple and work . They are a piece of hose with a brass end ,with a marble inside working as a check valve . Shake it in the liquid and it siphons . I set my fuel cans on 4 wheeler seat , lawn tractor the same , my tractor I put a soft towel on hood to prevent scratching and fill from there . I sell them to truckers to fill fuel filters , and their hand sprayers out of their saddle tanks . They use hand sprayers and diesel fuel to coat the beds , keeps their load of asphalt from sticking .

Siphon-$2.99
Can-$9.99
Fuel - $16.45 (and rising)
Hassle free refueling... priceless...you got the picture...

WOW. Where did you get a tractor that runs on Kerosene?:D

Kerosene? I thought blue meant smurf juice!

It has to be kerosene. After all, no smurfs were injured in the making of this thread.:D

Really?
I thought smurfs were made of some kind of sand... At least that is what I remember when they made smurfette....

Thats a great idea but I use 45 gallons a year so I guess they could deliver every 6.5 years or so - Might go bad before then!!

Buy 6 more tractors.:laughing::laughing::laughing:

I do use around 300 gallon a year so this was the best investment I have made. You can also add a filter. I also have a 12volt version and fill a couple 55 gallon drums for the rented farm. I have the large tank delivered and have taken the drums to town and fill at a station that sells off road. Handling a full barrel isn't too bad though. You don't have to fill all of the way up either. The pump is a Tuthill/Fill Rite made in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. They also have hand pumps as well. Not for everybody, but I used to fill by cans and finally bit the bullet.

I suspect that will be the route I eventually go, but it might be with the barrels or a 50 gallon fuel tank on skids.

Mud skis?
They make them?

You might outta get some for the farm!

Yeah! It is Kerosene. :confused3: Why? Is that a problem? :confused3: I always use that magic can to turn the cheap Diesel into expensive Kerosene. The tractor loves it. :licking::licking::licking:

The flexible funnel tube from one of my 5 gallon cans is at the bottom of my fuel tank. It fell off the can and into the tractor tank one day. Doh!!

Looks like we've pretty well run the gambit on fuel refilling methods, so I would like to temporarily hijack the thread to ask a related question.

Some of you have mentioned storing your fuel for a year or more. I would like to know if it ever goes bad. I realize it has been sitting far below the earth in some form for eons, but once it has been refined and mixed with additives, is there any sort of shelf life for diesel fuel or gasoline for that matter?

I dont leave my fuel for longer than a few months. After that I throw it into my heating oil tank and refill my containers. Maybe there would be no problem but why chance it.

I gotta get me one of those magic fuel cans.:D

I have kept fuel in a thirty gallon poly drum for about nine months. I use more than that but just top off the tank periodically so some portion of the fuel is old. I do add stabilizer (marine) and I have a terminal water/fines filter on my dispensing pump. No problems. Tractor runs fine and the tractor fuel filter remains clean.
