medical cards while pulling trailer

In MA the medical card is for your CDL License I think that applies everywhere. I also have a heavy equipment license that requires the medical card to renew also.

You surely do in Michigan.

in COMMERCIAL use you need the card and a chauffers between 10,000# and 26,000#.

Beyond 26 it is of course standard CDL.

Here if the GVW is over 10k it applies, ie: 1 ton dually needs it without trailer.

A 3/4 ton pickup with a single axle trailer puts the CGWR over 10k and you need it there also.

Again only commercial, personal use is exempt in Michigan and the CDL law but some states have their own classes below 26k.

welcome to IL, I sat throught the class with the DOT and Sectary of state police and they confirmed that if you are doing something commercially in any vehicle in IL you may be required to have medical card. Has nothing to do with CDL but if you have CDL you will need medical card also.

is farm use considered "commercially" or is that exempted? i.e. if a farmer is hauling a trailer with a tractor, is a medical card required?

I'd like to know how they can prove you were moving something for profit? example; How can they dictate someone pulling a tractor is doing it for profit?

I am betting the dot would say you not hauling a tractor for fun. As for farmers a don't know if they are exempt, but for around $60, why chance
it plus it a cheap exam. Most farmers around here don't even get their trucks
and traikers inspected, me I try to stay half way legal.

I agree it's cheap exam and sure you may lie your way out of the ticket or maybe he will tag you out and make you get someone else to come drive it. I have had more than one friend call to have me drive there truck rest of the way home due to dot saying they didn't have the correct endorement to drive there own truck. Always a lot of fun.

We need a med card here in wyo for anything gvw over 10k and anything less w/ a trailer att. This is for commercial users only, ag users here are exempt. We can go 100 air miles with a trailer if under 26k and not need a cdl unless crossing the state line then a cdl is required. It seems to me that the DOT is getting stickier about the rules, but I get frustrated that not all DOT employees are not familier with the ag rules or equipment being delivered directly to the customer that is a product of animal husbandry (lot's of battles at the scale).

What we need is a universal easy to understand law that applies to all 50 states.

It is crazy that we cannot go from state to state in this country without all the confusion!
