Tires Fill Tractor Tires with ?

I bought my tractor used and there is fluid in the rear tires, but I haven't a clue to what it is. Anyway to find out?

I've got rimguard in mine.. I paid $3.00/gal almost 3 years ago. I bought 100 gal, brought it home and put it in my tires myself. I got the adapter at NAPA and bought a litte dc pump from harbor frieght.

Interesting Tug... I am in Kingston, ON and I just took delivery of a Deere 3520 Cab. I asked to have the tires filled but the dealer completely ignored my request and sent a ballast box instead. Now I'm wondering if I really need the extra weight of filled tires. What was the product you used called and how much did it cost if you don't mind me asking?

With all due respect .... I think that dealer is WAY out of line changing your order for rear tire ballast to a rear ballast box.

I'm not talking about which is "better" - however measured.
I'm talking about second guessing a customer and changing their written approved and paid for order without discussing it.
I would give them ONE LAST CHANCE to fix it as an "error" (allow them just that much wrigggle room) and then I would be lighting up their phone line demanding that they remove the tractor that I did not order and provide a full refund.
Then I would find a different dealer, however inconvenient.
This isn't even funny, do they substitute post hole diggers for roto tillers too ?

Might be easier to get in but I bet it don't come out easier, at least here in January. Thats when you get torn tires around here. Nothing but smooth flat ice for three miles and I tear a tire. Luckily I had calcium so it came right out, I just had to weld a patch over the rusted out valve stem hole. At least I can laugh about it today, it wern't funny at the time.

Yeah. You have to take it out before it starts freezing too much. Mines still in alltho weve been having some real cold for us this time of year. Several days where it hasnt gotten above freezing. Iv got the tractor parked in an unheated insulated enclosure on a thick slab. I may be able to get it thru the yr by taking it out in the sun on warmer days, well see. The real thing tho is that water is so convenient thruout the regular season - change weight with the garden hose or draining on the ground. Wish it weighed more but cant have everything.

Taste it. Salty is CaCl. Sweet is anti freeze. Beet juice may be slightly sweet but red color will tell. Windshield washer smells like itself. Methanol water mix almost tasteless - similar to water but very slight sweetness.

I just got my 2305 back on Saturday after I had a shop put RimGaurd in. They got ~8.5 gallons in each tire. I was pushing snow Sunday, with my new RimGaurd and my ballast box I drove around and tried to get it stuck, I didn't succeed. :thumbsup:

Thanks. It is clear so that eliminates beet juice. Would it be colored antifreeze?

Ethylene glycol anti freeze is greenish and sweet. I hear its dangerous because cats will drink it and die. Clear might be a methanol water mix.

$2.85 per gal. 150 gal
$ 60 to come out and
$200 to fill the tires
i tought that was high is it easy to to it your self the said if i was to pick up the Rim giard there he would charge $3 a gal

I got 110 gallons put in mine for 300 dollars last year. Sure made a huge differance in stability..Still good to hang something on the 3 PT when doing loader work though to take the weight off the frony axles.

I found that it will be much cheep er for me to fill my oun tires with Rim Guard i can buy it for $3 per gal i understand i can get an adapter to fill the tire at TSC but what elase do i need ( type of pump) etc. do i let all the air out of tire then fill? , only fill half way?,

Bought my TC33DA used, found it had tires filled. Called the dealer that sold it new, he said it had 3 gal. anti-freeze the rest water. (each tire)

Like I said in an earlier post. You will need the adapter to fill the tire, but these can be bought at NAPA or TSC for about 10 bucks. Then you can either use gravity flow or some sort of small pump. I used a cheap pump I picked up at Harbor Freight. Takes about 45 minutes a tire. If I can do I figure anyone can do it. LOL

It is difficult to install yourself too so that means getting the tires to a dealer which is extra hassle and expense. I would specify Rimguard in very cold climates but would have the dealer get it installed before taking delivery.

I believe the manufacturer told me it was viscous and required pumping but I don't have direct experience. I had called them because I wanted to do it myself but he ended up talking me out of it. I see others have done it though so it clearly is possible without the special equipment that dealers use.

I used this pump from Grainger. Brought home two drums of Rim Guard. Adapter from Farm & Fleet and two old washing machine water hoses. You just have to bleed the air out a few times while filling. Fill with the valve stem up and rotate down now and then to check the level. I filled mine just below the stem to avoid getting it in the tire gauge. I also filled the front tires. That little pump is good for a lot of things. I have even pumped diesel fuel with no issues.

If it is viscous it would cause greater rolling resistance leading to less efficiency. That could add up fuel $ significantly over time.

It is clearly more viscous than water, WWF or CaCl but I'm not so sure it would substantially alter fuel efficiency. I have never heard any complaints about that.
