After putting the new hydraulics into operation I figured I should top off the transmission, what with some leaking from changing hoses/fittings, and all the new hoses/cylinder/valve. It's over-full.....considerably (read: I overfilled it, considerably:eek:). Is this dangerous? I know it's dangerous w/engine oil. Do I need to drain some out? Any help will be appreciated.

I agree I doubt you will damage much but I would lower close to Yanmar mark. They put it there for some reason. I always give manufactures of equipment the benefit of doubt.

Is your transmition part of your hydraulics Storm Petrol (my favorite sea bird by the way) or are they seperate systems? If sepeate I would think you would be ok as long as there is enough room for the expansion of the oil when it gets hot, but if it is one system I would drain it asap. Good luck.

It should be a drain bolt/plug just like the oil pan. Just Losen it and let a slow drip or drain come out. When it drops to he correct level snug it back up your be fine. I would keep it also prob. nothing wrong with it.

Thanks, guys.....will drain some out. One reason I overfilled it is that I never saw fluid from the fill hole while filling.. It was only when I thought to myself "gee, this sure is taking a lot of oil" and checked, I saw it was at least a half inch overfull.

turkey baster is good but a large syringe such as one for medical I.V. set up is ideal... you can suction fluids out of containers and they can be emptied into tight places such as 4x4 truck transfer cases,etc....my wife is a nurse so i get these and a supply of latex gloves for keeping hands clean
