Flat tire repair

I have a UTV with low mileage all terrain tires (non Slimed) and have discovered a flat caused by a 4-5 penny nail which penetrated through one of the center 3/8" +- raised treads. Should I repair it with the glue and synthetic twine-like product, a rubber plug or? Not sure how thick the balance of the tire casing is and I don't know if the plugs are available long enough. Please if you can, include your recommended product's brand name. I have an air compressor so I don't necessarily think that I need the hand pump type kit but maybe I do. Your thoughts please.

I have used Slime tire plug kits on all kinds of off road tires with 100% success.

Tractors, ATV's UTV's etc.

Thanks timswi, do I need to get a certain length of plug? Same size as the penetration or longer? A mixed package?

The ones I've bought are all the same size. They are plenty long enough for ATV and small tractor tires. AutoZone/pep boyes etc all have them. Brand doesn't really matter.

They come in a kut with the roughing tool, intallation tool, inserts and glue.

I always have a set or two laying around. They're cheap.

Some people like to put slime in the tires. That is a great solution except some tire shops surcharge you if that stuff comes splashing out. It's can make quite a mess.

I recently used the slime kit on my ZTR exmark (13psi rear tires) and it worked well. In addition I slimed the two rear for future insurance. The plugs are an easy quick fix without taking the tire off the rim.

I, too, have used the plugs for many off-road tire punctures, also with 100% success. Mine just happen to be Slime brand but I don't think that matters a bit. As long as you find the tools, glue, and plugs at an auto parts store or WallyWorld you'll be good to go.
I've plugged car tires, too. That might be a no-no, but I've never had a failure with one of them, either. YMMV
