modern tractor short wheel base

I see many have talked about "flipping over" and "can fit more in a container" but what about the roll-over factor ? I've seen the big ag tractors mowing on the side of the roads at a minimum 25-35 degree angle but they never roll -over. I know for a fact my SCUT would roll-over at a 20 degree angle. Does the longer wheel base add stability for roll-overs compared to the shorter wheel base ? I can see why milkman added duels to the front and rear of his tractor.

If you took a closer look, I think you'd find those big Ag tractors have a pretty wide track.

That's my point Roy. I wish I bought a SCUT with a much wider track. Not even sure if they make them.

That's why some guys put spacers on their hubs. I've seen pics (on TBN) of CUTs with dual rear tires.
Me, I've found that filled rear tires combined with a reasonable speed provide adequate stability, but I don't run across any slopes greater then 15-16 degrees (measured them with a tiltmeter years ago). I don't operate on those slopes at all if the grass is wet.

bp,
I agree, the spacers on my front axle you recommended help I'm sure but I just envisioned myself to be mowing at steeper angles like the big ag tractors. The wife actually made me buy an electric lawnmower to cut the grass where I refuse to go with my tractor. Can't complain though. Lowes had one on clearance for a $100. Hard to say no to that : )

Im guessing mine is a CUT, 35hp 4wd chinese. When I get one I always turn the tires out front and back to widen the footprint. Never thought about doubling up the wheels.

Most folks don't....especially after pricing the conversion.

Spacers on the front only help with tire fitment. Since the front axle pivots, nothing in stability is gained really.

I'd like one inch spacers on the rear. Hard to find. The 2" or 3" rear spaces would work great on larger tractors, but, to my eye, look a bit goofy on the sub cuts. Kind of overkill. A nice 1" on the rears of a subcut would look OK and do wonders.

So would that mean that a wide front tractor is no better than a narrow front (or tricycle type)?

The front axle is limited on the amount of pivot so a wider stance will still help.
