Transmission types for JD 40 series.

I'm a bit confused by some of the sale ads for JD 20x40 series of tractors - 2040, 2240, 2440, 2640.

I've seen them advertised as collar shift (sliding gear), synchro shift, hi-lo and reverserer.

My confusion comes about when I see a tractor advertised as having a hi-lo transmission and the picture doesn't have the left-hand lever on the console with the rabbit and turtle. However, there's a pic of the double shift levers on the floor with the 2-range shift lever on the left and the 4-speed shift lever on the right.

Are they trying to convince folk's that the 2-range is the hi-lo? If that's the case, then what's with the rabbit and turtle on the left hand lever on the console?

What's the 2nd lever on the console for - besides the reverser?

Isn't that where the hi-lo shift is?

JD did make 40 series with 2 sticks and a high low on the dash. I drove a 2940 that was set up that way. The rabbit and the turtle would be the high and low.

I think those that advertise their 8spds as Hi-Lo just do not know any better.
If you have Rabbit-Turtle on the left, that is the Hi-Lo. Back then Rabbit-Turtle was not used for the throttle as it is now.
I do not think any were syncros.
Only collar shift with or without either Hi-Lo or Reverser, but not both.

My 755 uses the rabbit and turtle for both the throttle and the Hi-Lo range selector.

What year is your 755? My 1974 JD 2030 only uses Rabbit Turtle for the Hi-Lo.

Is the hi-lo a "wet" or hydraulic shift? Or is it a "dry" clutch shift?

What year is your 755? My 1974 JD 2030 only uses Rabbit Turtle for the Hi-Lo.
No label for the throttle.

Purchased new in 1993. s/n shows 1992 model.

Tractors with sticks on the floor have hi-lo in left of steering wheel and SG cabs have a small lever to the left of the sticks on the console if i remember right . Hi lo is hydraulic i believe .
