I have the old style oil bath air filter mounted in front of the radiator. I'd like to move it to increase air flow into the radiator and help with overheating. It gets pretty hot here. Issue is that it needs to be vertical or the oil pours out!.

Has anyone moved this type of filter or changed over to a modern paper filter? Does this require a new housing or could I just find a paper filter to fit the existing housing?

Appreciate any thoughts

Mark

You may be able to retrofit a newer style Jinma dry filter, check with a dealer. Forget about converting your existing filter.

My filter is the same paper cartridge assembly as Tommy pictures above, but it was located out in front of the radiator. I relocated mine back over the intake manifold to make accessing the front of the radiator easier. Here is a link over to Johns Jinma website where I described how I moved mine.

Good Luck.

Tommy,

Pics of what I have. Would I be able to insert a paper filter? As you can see it has a top half that unclips (and leaks oil if tipped over).

Appreciate any advice

At this point I will defer to my original post.
Look inside your filter cannister and see how you can fit a paper element inside of it, sealing off both ends, allowing the filtered air to flow from the center of the element into the outlet tube. If you look closely at your oil bath filter you will see that it's principle of operation is exactly the reverse of a dry type filter. If you attempt to convert it, good luck. Which size paper element do you plan to use? Will it have sufficient cfm capacity? Reserve capacity? There is more to it than you may think. Just purchase Tommy's filter and be done with it. Just trying to save you some time and effort in your quest.

Addendum: Compare the price of the Jinma filter asembly to a $360.00+ comparable size Donaldson, Baldwin, or Farr assembly.

Many thanks for the info - sounds like I'll need to purchase the new housing. Will be in touch when next in the States. My flight attendant wife refuses to bring back any more tractor parts on her trips from the US!

Hi Bob
Think they are not Jinma's
they are and I quote" This has resulted in the DFM tractor series developed with the Dong Feng Factory,"
I Think in Melbourne Diesel Traders are a Jinma dealers in Melbourne also there is a site jinmatractors.com.au.
But knowing they way the costs of parts are in Oz probably cheaper getting them from Tommy ...
