Just talking with my Father about his latest seat time. He was mowing a field off and was pretty dusty. So he decided he better clean the screen when done as it has been very warm lately. Well there is no removable screen on it. HUH?? I said "Pop its gotta be a mistake". He called dealer and they told him that this model does not have one. Any other owners wanna clarify? Thanks

JD Parts shows three engine versions for the 4720. All show a screen except for ENGINE (MARKED 4024HLV11) when used in a cab model. How new is the tractor and is it a cab?

Brand new this spring. And it is a cab. That doesn't make any sense. Why would they do that.

Is there a non-removable screen? Maybe hidden from view or not easy to see?

Manual say anything about cleaning the screen?

The front grill of the hood is the "screen". You blow that off. After 2-4 hours of mowing (depending on how wet, how much dry debris there is, etc) I lift the hood and blow any additional grass bits out of the radiators with compressed air. I've cleaned it off in the field (just with my gloves) once when things were really dry. I always use a leaf blower after every mowing to clean things up.

The screen on the front of the 4520 is a finer mesh than the screen in front of the radiators on my B21 TLB.

My 2009 JD 4720 open station has both the the exterior grill screen, as well as a "curtain" screen that hangs in front of the radiator inside the hood.

Can't say why they would eliminate it, but it is the latest engine version they took it away from. Sounds like the one you have. I see nothing in JD Parts, removable or not, that takes its place.

Hmmm, better hood screen, no need for radiator screen - that does seem to make sense.

To me, only makes sense if ALL the air coming through the radiator comes through the hood screen. With the one piece hoods, I don't think that is true.
I'd miss the screen also at the radiator.

But it has been a service problem, that people don't clean that screen and it plugs and causes overheating. Maybe this is a "fix" for those who don't pay attention to it. ??

I believe they put a seal around the radiator support so that the only air entering is from the grille. The grille does not keep the finer particles from going through the radiator.

The problem I am having when mowing with my 4720, is that the finer dust/grass particles are clogging the condenser causing the a/c stop cooling. This is frustrating in 100 degree heat! I have to blow out the intercooler, oil cooler, condenser, and the radiator out every 2-3 hours. When I blow them out, I can't be sure I'm not bending the fins with the air or nozzle because of the spacing between them.

I have addressed this issue with the dealer and they assure me that it has been reported to John Deere. In the meantime, they tried to adapt the earlier plastic screen to my tractor with no success. Hopefully they will figure out how to line the inside of the grille with a finer screen.

If anyone else is having this problem, I would encourage them to report it to John Deere directly or through the dealer. Without enough case files, they probably wouldn't be too motivated to correct this problem.

Cleaning that every 2-3 hours would be a pain you don't need on a hot day. FWIW, I use this brush to clean the narrow slot between the oil cooler and radiator after I slide out the screen. Does not dent or otherwise harm the radiator, but does somehow grab all that bad stuff from the fins. May or may not be useful to you. It is a dryer vent Fuller Brush I bought at Lowes for about ten dollars.

No "curtain screen" on my 2011 4720 cab - getting ready to do it's first maint. according to the OM and on-line parts, it shows a screen that hangs on the radiator, but mind does not have one? I had a 2008 3720 cab that had one? I keep finding these issues with what the OM says and what you have? I just want to know what it should be??? help!

And the screen is part #26?? It shows on one cab 4720, but not on the other cab 4720

So maybe one s/n has it and the other doesn't. Maybe can order a screen and slide it right in.
