Well, i had one of those spectacularly silly moments where I relaxed while filling my tank with fuel and bang the entire autofill nozzle fell into the tank. I tried initially to fish around in there to get it out but no luck sofar. And now for some weird reason, I cannot cut on my MMM as the tractor stalls each time, but runs fine without turning it on - sounds familiar to anyone?

Well if the stalling did not occur before dropping the cap then the cap is likely partially blocking the gas tank fuel exit. The power needed to run the MMM needs more gas which isn't available.

Yep, that is what I figured, and so now I gotta figure a way to get it out of there.

Try one of these retrieval tools.

I got one however, the tank is not that easy to reach - see drawing

I gotta figure how to snake my way down into the base of the tank itself instead of the upper portion.

I guess I need to find one long enough to get into the bottom of the tank.

I posted this on the other thread, you might get it with a powerful magnet if the spring is in there and it's a low enough stainless that it has magnetic properties. If you have another one check to see if there's a place a magnet can stick to it.

:cool:how about a steel clothes hanger straighten it out and make a little hook on one end. if not long enuff twist 2 together to make it longer, or better yet braze 2 together, then wrap the joint with tape, so it doesnt hang on anything on the way back out. might be best to drain the tank 1st. if possible.

I don't have an idea for fishing it out of there, but I would be careful about probing around in there and trying to pull stuff out. There could be stuff in there you don't want to rip out, such as fuel guage sender.

Here's a thought - with the tank empty stick a shopvac hose in the tank and suck the nozzle out.

Well, that was my first thought however, I was a bit worried about pulling on the wrong thing and not being able to see what I am pulling on.

I also had this thought and may try it with a small hose. I will probably need to get a very small hose to pull it off.

Yep, don't want to have to pull the tank unless it is absolutely necessary.;)

Hard to believe it causes the tractor to die out. Maybe the nozzle is over the outlet.

OK what have you tried so far?

Hi-intensity light, rubber coated hangar to gently poke around, going to get a longer easy pick-up to try to see if I can latch on to it. Still thinking of different options. Probably will resort to draining the tank and using a small diameter hose on a wet/dry vacuum.

Hmmm....
While its easy for me to say, It doesnt look overly complex or hard to remove the tank....
The way I see it is yes..if the other ideas work, then your good to go in short time...but I hate investing time & money in things that have a high probability of failure...

Draining & Removing the tank is 100% sure to get it out.

I don't believe the fuel nozzle is the problem with it starting the PTO's, I am thinking the seat switch is bad or became disconnected.

You know, i will check that out, seems kinda interesting since the MMM was working just prior and and then after being parked on a hill, it started doing this when I want to do a last minute minor cut.

Nuru,
I voiced the same doubts in a previous post here. In my view the nozzle simply can't clog the fuel outlet. If it makes you feel better than, by all means, get it out but there is a simple test to see if it's causing fuel problems. Shut off the petcock on the tank, disconnect the line from the carb and open the petcock with the line in a jar or fuel can. If it's running out than the nozzle isn't the cut out problem.
