See if this will help. Cursor over the steering wheel and click to see closeup. By using this knob and the R or L brake "she'll turn on a dime and give you 9 cents change!" :D:thumbsup:

Jayste - yes, thats the one I have. The bracket just doesn't seat right on the wheel. I guess you have to lay part of it on a wheel spoke you did? Those Lowes ones look much more simple.

But with the hydrostatic steering that is on all the newer machines the knob will NEVER be in the same place when the wheels are straight;)
On both my L4350 and B7800 I put my steering wheel spinner on the left side when the wheels were straight and to this day that is where they are.;) Perhaps John Deeres are different? I did have to modify the bracket so it would fit the spoke of the steering wheel. You can see the vise marks in the pic. I picked mine up at a local tractor dealership for about $8 each. Always the first thing I do for my tractor. Would not be without it!

ya know magic, I've wondered about that also. The spinner on my 2630 has always been in the same place when wheels are straight, for over 3 years now. I put mine about 2 o'clock.

thanks for reading and carry on

I put mine about 2 o'clock.glen
Glen, On my B7800 it is at about 10 O'clock as that is where the spoke is and I want my left hand on it. On my L4350 it is at 6 O'clock but does seem to vary from 4-8 O'clock, much more than the B7800.

I use longer bolts with the universal spinner knobs from TSC. It will work with most newer steering wheel. You do not need to get it really tight. It will dimple the steering wheel somewhat and still not be too tight.

Many tractor dealers will have the spinner knobs you need. They are designed for the thicker style of steering wheel found on more modern tractors.

General Lee, I mounted mine just like MagiCheater did and it seats properly. Yes, most of it is on the spoke with only the "lip" of it on the wheel.

My guess is those models do not have full hydrostatic steering...It is certainly not a JD thing;) You can do a search for "spinner" or "spinners" and find lots of threads about them not staying in the same place.
