Putting the final touches and "attachments" on my power rake and was wondering about the rubber deflector/barrier.

Common sense (for lack of better terms) has me thinking this is a "set it and forget it" thing...Why would a person want it opened up all the way? I've tested out the rake with NO barrier, and I honestly dont see why a person would use the rake like that?

Where I'm going with this is should I make the deflector in a fixed position or adjustable...obviously fixed is easiest, adjustable has a bit more added complexity..

with the barrier open, it will let larger objects through. With it closed it gathers all of the debris in the box. So, if you wanted to "sift" out the larger rocks from you material, leave it down.

I must admit i'm a "power rake noob"...but I thought that was the whole point of a power rake.....

I guess I should ask...when would you not want to sift the material?

When I'm doing an area that's real heavy with rocks, I'll make a pass to get the rocks more than fist size, clean them up, then make a second pass with the deflector closed down to catch the smaller trash. I like mine adjustable, but I don't change it much. Harley brand used to have a hydraulicly adjustable deflector. Mine's a Landpride.
