l2800 want crank.....

It was running fine this morning. Fired right up and worked for a few hours till I quit. Went out to crank it and all I get is click!!! Checked the battery and it is fully charged. Checked the fuses and they are fine. Seat safety switch is depressing and the neutral switch is hooked up.

Any ideas or troubleshooting tips please?

What's the battery voltage as soon as you engage the starter -- my guess is bad battery and under load, you'll see very low to no voltage.

Is it HST? Make sure the pedal is not stuck slightly in either the forward or revese position. My L3400 plays that trick from time to time.

I need to check that. Just by checking at the terminals it is reading 12.47v. So it is possible that it is still bad reading that? It is a manual transmission and I do have it in Neutral. Tail shaft is also disengaged.

This stinks. We are having a post Halloween party tomorrow night and i always take the kids on a hay ride.

Well I checked the battery while the wife tried to crank it and the voltage only dropped by 1 volt!! I am thinking that maybe it is one of these safety switches that has gone bad???? Anyway to bypass these and check? Could the started be bad ?

Didn't you ever steal cars when you were a kid? Run a jumper wire from the positive side of the battery to the positive side of the starter. Try it with ignition off first just to see if it cranks.

You can usually pull off the connectors on safety switches and manually operate them while you check for continuity, assuming you can find them. Not sure on your model but there's usually a safety switch on the seat, PTO and clutch. But I think if you hear a click when you turn the key, it isn't a safety switch problem because the click you hear is the starter relay, and if that pulls in there should be current to starter. Unless maybe that click is the fuel pump, in which case I guess it could be a safety switch preventing the starter relay from energizing.

Give the starter several gentle taps and check all the connections and wires just before the connectors.

Try to boost it also?

I agree, try to jump the starter to see if starter is good or not, with possiblity of bad battery. Has simalar issue last week with the car, It was fine until one morning wouldn't start. I used one of fthe harbor freight battery testers and it shows full 12 volts. HMMM. I swapped battery from my truck and now car starts. Tried charging the battery overnight, still bad. You might just have a bad battery, or wire issue to starter.

Ok here is what I found. I was able to jump the starter from one post to the other and spin it. It appeares tht the bendix is not engaging. crawled up under the tractor and on the right side of the trannie there are 2 sensors screwed into the trannie . One of them was unplugged.
1st what is this sensor?
2nd how many volts should I see from the little wire that plugs into the starter when I turn the switch to crank. this is the wire that should be engaging the nendix correct? How many volts to engage?

Without a WSM, and just to guess, its probably one of the saftey switches. Do you see where the other end should go? Have you plugged it in and try again? As for the starter, it spins but the solenoid doesnt come out to turn the engine ?

Don't know the anaswer to the question about the sensor on the transmission.

The heavy wire to the starter, comes directly from the battery. The smaller wire comes from the start switch. When the ignition switch is in the start position, battery voltage should be present at this wire. The small wire energizes the solinoid, that in turn, draws the bendix into the flywheel, and at the same time, closes the contacts that connect the battery to the starter windings.

Battery voltage can be anywhere from about 12 volts even to 13.5 volts, depending on when the battery was last charged. Durring cranking, the voltage can fall as low as 9.5 volts, but should recover to near 12 volts as soon as the cranking stops.
