We are looking at purchasing a house that has an unused silo on the property. Does anyone have a unique idea on what I can do with it? The property no longer has enough land for its original usage.

Start a secret organization bent on world domination and make it your base?

make a guest house out of it, I've seen them before like that it would just have round walls it would just have 2 or 3 floors . Jeeper

Offer it to DoD as a peacekeeper site, then claim the property tax exemption?

Seriously, a friend had a cellular provider use his property on an interstate for a cell site, and the town made the provider disguise it as a silo (this was in Maine, very rustic area near Saco beach...
He made about 2,00 per year in lease payments, maybe even free service?

Cell site?

Kid's play house? Bed and breakfast silo. Dog house for you when the wife get's mad for playing on the tractor too long. Paint the town name on it. Let the rock climbers rent it to practice rappelling. Rent it to other farmers that could use the silo storage

I think making it into a unique style guest house would be great. Lots of potential if you are not hindered by dollars!

I heard of one guy that used to burn trash in his at night. Had a pretty good business until he filled it too high and the authorties busted him. Seems the flames were coming out of the top.

There's a place south of here bordering on some State land. They put a hot tub up on top with a telescope to view the features of the woods. They also cut in some turret mounts so they could put a carbide cannon thru the slot. I'm thinking of put up a false silo out of wood off of my barn to accomplish the same thing. What a great view. If its a Smith Brothers, the blocks are very collectable as pavers. Be sure to keep out folks who might be tempted to climb it. Once they look up and see moving clouds, they may get too dizzy to safely stay up there. I happen to know all too much about this. 120'.

to use an existing silo for a guest house is a great/cool way to go esp. after seeing a few tv shows on people doing this. Even if you convert the bottom half for garage like space and middle as guest house and uperlevel for attic like space and very top as a observatory view. At least this is what I would do with my dream :D . Otherwise I would just leave it alone and let inspiration hit after living there for a few years.

what type of silo is it? the old concrete block or is it a newer metal type like a harvastore? i have seen a few that had cellular equipment placed on them, in that case its a win for you as those generate money on a monthly basis. if not the guest house/observatory idea would be something i would consider. the metal harvastore type i think would be very hard to convert into something else, but i believe there is a company from canada that buys thos type silos from you and they re-furb them for parts. if it still has the unloader you could always sell that, although not many dairys use upright silos these days.
