And, if I'm not mistaken, you can debate a fella like crazy and then go have a beer with him without harboring any ill feelings or act like you're better than him no matter how the debate came out.

Where is the drinkup smiley? :)

Well I can positively say you are better off than me...

Not to try to sound like Bill Clinton and debate what the meaning of is is, but I feel that the definition of "better off" is subjective. I know a lot of people with debt up to their ears, no, up to their eyes, but they appear to be living the good life. Others don't appear to have too many physical possessions but are content with what they have and also have a great family life and no debt. Which of those two examples are better off? ;)

I'm not at all implying that Duffster is one of those in debt to their eyes, obviously, but I think you know what I mean as far as "better off" being subjective. I intentionally don't list my every possession in my signature line or anywhere online. Some get little tidbits over time and think they know everything about me down to what is in my sock drawer. If it makes 'em happy, good for them. I'm more of a private person and would never list my every possession online. Heck, there's people who drive past my driveway every day but have no idea that there is a house at the end of the drive. My home can't be seen from the road and that was by design. Again, some people love to sit on their front porch and watch traffic go by and waive to everybody. I think that's great and they probably know half of the people driving by. That's just not me, but I can relate to those people. Sort of like the gas powered pickup vs the diesel powered pickup. I happen to have had each for quite a while. Each has their place and I don't feel either is the truck like some people do. Wouldn't it be boring if we were all the same? :)

OK guys, keep it civil or the thread gets locked...

I agree. I will steer us back to the topic!

I heard rumors last year that the V-10 was going away and Ford planned to introduce a 6.2L "Hurricane" gasser with talk of 400 HP for the Superduty, Mustang and Lincoln Navigator.

I'm thinking that the hurricane might be on hold since there's a "politically incorrect" view of large, fuel consuming engines these days.

One has to ponder the thought that the V-10 might be dropped in favor of a 5.4L V-8 with a little more power added.

I hope not. Right now, IMO Ford is the only Manafacturer offering a truly capable gasser[V 10] when it comes to heavy towing. Sure the 6,0 GM and 5.7 Hemi sound nice and run good in a 1/2 or lightly loaded 3/4 ton, but put them in the hills with 10k behind them and they're tongues will hang out.

I have a soft spot for the V10 and would besorry to see it go.

X2. I prefer a long stroke pushrod gas engine for a truck (not a car), but the V-10 is the best HD pickup gas engine. It's really the only choice of a HD gas engine now that the 8.1L is gone years ago and the V-10 is a good one.

However, when you see Ford being given a 5 billion dollar subsidy to develop "greener" vehicles, it's not hard to visualize them developing their smaller engines to do "more with less" (displacement).

Get off of it. Now body listens.;) This is a total separate matter.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm completely on topic. The Ford V-10 going away in favor of a smaller, greener engine is completely relevant, realistic and on topic.

The other 2 full size domestic truck companies have eliminated their bigger gas engines. Ford is rumored to be considering the same with their new 6.2L engine as a replacement for the V-10.

Scroll down and you will read that:

"Automotive News reports today that Ford has severely scaled back the BOSS engine program. Only one vehicle will receive it - the F-250 (and up) series as a replacement for the 6.8 liter V-10 (which is therefore implied to be cancelled as well)."

After slogging through posts about drinking beer, Bill Clinton, how one member feels about another, etc. is allowed to stand, I would think the subsidizing of Ford to develop greener engine models than the Ford V-10 is far more on topic & relevant. ;););)

I would agree with that if it hadn't been prefaced (on several occasions) with Ford's grant money being compared to a bailout. ;);););););)

What I am trying to say is just because any company gets money in the form of grants to develop something has nothing to do with this topic. I am sure every automaker has taken government money to develop something or the other. Heck, if someone offered any of us money or tax breaks to work on something or another we would jump at the offer.

Grant money and bail out money have nothing to do with each other.

I guess we just see it differently from each other. I see a gov handout for paying back loans no different than a gov handout to make it easier for a company to build greener cars.

Either way its' taxpayer money helping out a big business. At least there's some chance GM will pay back some of the bailout money. That would be nice.

Let's get back to the topic and just agree to disagree.

I disagree with you on this. I think the 6.2, if in research, would come out. It is a smaller cu motor, and should pack the technology that could help it to get better fuel economy, and emissions, than the V10. GM has had thier 6.2 out for a while in cadilacs and high end GMC's, and has expanded that line out to the trucks. I could only hope Ford has come up with as nice of a motor in the 6.2 as GM has. My wifes 6.2 rocks....Plus her doors don't squeek on her SUV:D...

So I would use your same argument, that political correctness might kill the V10.....

So where do we "disagree"???

The new Ford V-8 replacing the V-10 has been my position all along through the thread. Including a link where I show the Ford 6.2L is predicted to replace the V-10.

WTH:confused:

I think it was a Star Trek episode. Kirk and Spock were taken hostage by aliens (what else is new?). They awoke in an old Roman gladiator ring (you do like gladiator movies, don't you?). Of course, the aliens were dressed in togas, the emporer was in his box seats and immediately ordered Spock and Kirk to start, well, gladiating. Spock, being the stronger Vulcan, beat up Kirk. However, they didn't die, rather they were magically healed and the next day the process started all over again.

Of course, this was science fiction but it's a lot like almost every truck thread on TBN. While Spock and Kirk aren't in these truck threads, every thread has the same cast of combatants and the plot is always the same.

1. Someone starts a thread about something dealing with trucks. Engines, transmissions, oil, horsepower, reliability, it really doesn't matter. Often it's not one of cast of characters who starts the thread. Just some innocent TBNer who wandered into the Truck Colliseum.
2. This triggers the cast of characters to be awakened from suspended animation.
3. One member of the cast says, "White".
4. Another member of the cast says, "Black".
5. Soon we're up to 10 pages of messages, each containing lots of quotes from other cast members in a futile attempt to convince the others. If it's a real special episode of Truck Gladiators, there will be links to competing 'facts'.
6. As the thread approaches 15 or 16 pages, each cast member notifies the Gladiator Referees of a supposed breach of the rules.
7. Soon thereafter the Gladiator Referees give the whole performance a thumbs down and the sad episode comes to an end.

But never fear, after a brief respite, just like Spock and Kirk, up starts another thread and like locusts, the same cast of characters rises again to do battle. Unlike Spock and Kirk, who eventually recognized the utter futility of what they were doing, TBN Truck Gladiators never recognize the futility. Sad, isn't it?

Thread closed.
