rear mounted disc mower/conditioners

Honestly, its hard to get a feel for how diff disc and sickle are in regard to speed and usability. Its literally like night & day.

I did manage a plug which brought my TN to its knees momentarily. My haybine wouldn't have done that as belts slip first. Mind you I'm NOT complaining. :)

I still want to see how dry down goes before I start looking for a disc mower.

I thought you would see a bit of difference if you ever tried one. There is really no comparison on the amount of ground you can cover in a day between a disc mower and a sickle.

Here is a pic of the back of another brand of caddy. The top link is still in plastic in the photo. This brand is a bit simplier in design(and they claim to be the original disc mower caddy company), but the KMC that Darin has is really hard to beat.

Got my mounted disc mower conditioner on the the tractor yesterday after freeing up all the sway adjusters. Mowed my front lawn with it. Did a great job.

It is a load on the tractor but not bad to handle. Swung to the rear it lightens up the front end a bit. Mower pulls nicely.

Cool deal - where are the pics?

I should nab some, I'm a bit embarrassed to get any before I fix the pto seal leak, I'm a driving EPA infraction right now.

Some pics from before delivery of the 5455, I'll have mower pics tomorrow.

Nice looking tractor.:D Yours has the same mirrors and the "extra" light kit(the 2 by the door handles) like my tractor does. The light kit is a $250-$300 add on as best I remember.

Yeah the big mirrors would be nice but I paid approximately 3/8 of the price of a new 5455 so I can't complain.

Have the pto seals and filters on order for it now.

Have changed half the filters now and engine oil, installed the tilt steering repair kit, and logged almost 10 hours discing and seeding a field.

Still lots of things left to do, about 400$ of parts still in the box to install.

The disc mower conditioner is getting ready and my Kubota has been moved to bushhog duty cleaning up edges of fields.

I didn't think to bring the camera to the field but the Pottinger 305 and the 5455 got the field mowed in 2 hours flat that used to take 4 hours in the Kubota with the NH489. It is very happy running at 8.9 mph and could go faster but I don't have enough power when going up hill. I think I'll take the loader off next time to save a pile of weight.

I had dug out rocks last year and hadn't disced over the holes last year, that wasn't fun hitting at that speed, and I did toss some rocks from the little spoils next to the holes. All the other rocks that the haybine smashes into and jumps in the air for aren't even noticed on the discbine.

The drydown from the flails seems faster too. Cut quality is great. I'm sold. I do miss the hydro for mowing, being able to slow down at will and start back up smoothly. Also miss the main clutch for getting heavy pto loads spinning. The disc will almost stall the Massey when it kicks on.

I also drug my new to me tedder out of the bushes so I can got over it. An arm is loose and a pivot ball needs replaced.

Update on the mounted disc mower.

Still working great! Can't run it without the loader, well at least can't put it in transport position as the front end gets very light.

When working on hills, the centre suspended design puts a lot of weight off the side. When that is down hill it gets pretty freaky on bumps as you will start to spin a bit in 2wd. If I take out a fence row I could cut my steepest field up down instead of cross ways.
