I'm not sure if it's new...but the county is who wanted to charge the 911fee. I just have trouble with a duplication of fee's to establish something that is needed or required by the building permit. One fee begets another fee.....what a merry go round that one is. I for one am sick of this sort of treatment. It isn't like they actually will "DO" anything here to provide any benefit to me. These are simply more taxes.

(maybe I'm just getting old and crotchety.....and it don't help that I quit my chewing tobacco habit a few days ago.....when on April 1 they added more tax for that habit )

The county in the PA pocono mtns where our hunting camp is located left a 'hanger' on my door wanting our cabin address so they could notify us of our new address???

Since this is a state forest lease, we only own the buiding. On of the many state rules we have to follow [or risk loosing our lease] is that we cannot have mail delivery.

Part of the information on the flyer was that some street names will be changed to eliminate confusing near duplications and alot of the existing numbers will be changed to reflect the actual location in distance from the begining of the road, the 7000's would be 7 miles from the start or something like that. Once it is all figured out we will be required to purchase geen reflective signs w/ our number [somethng else prohibited by the state rules] and post them at our driveways.

An e-mail to the consultant resulted in a hostile response saying I was being uncooperative & asking if I wanted the fire, ambulance, etc. to be able to find my place? Gee to use 9-11 I need a phone or else cell phone coverage. Being a little 'fired up', I called the number and started giving them some opinion.

Turns out the wanted a way to notify us of our address once they re-draw the county map over the next 18 months, or so. It's been over 2 years and I still don't have the address...

Last June I fell while cutting the weeds and fractured my tibia/fibia and after getting the attention of the closest full time resident 9-11 was called and the local fire chief showed up with the EMT because he knew where the caller lived. After checking me out the EMT pulled out his cell [different carrier] and called the ambulance crew and re-directed the ambulance to our actual location instead of the development they were wandering around.

I now see the value of what they are doing and the 15 - 20 bux the signs will cost will be worth it, I wonder how long it is going to take?

I do think it stinks that they want to charge you just to plug in a number though that number should have meaning to the emergency responders.

Actually.. I agree with the gal.

In my area.. and probably most.. it is the 911 people that assign your address.. that's what make sit legal.. and mor eimportantly.. inthe system for emergency calls.

that tells the ambulance driver where the road access is. your made up address likely wouldn't show up on a 'search'.

What I'm agast at is that you need a building permit for an ag structure! ;)

So.....the other day I mailed in a building permit application to the county where my hunting land is located. I am planning a new 30x40 pole building on 107 acres of land I own....I had talked with the county earlier and did not anticipate any problems with the permit.

The county called today....and the gal calling was quite upset with me and wondered where I came up with the address for my land. I told her I looked at the need for it on the form.....and looked at my neighbors address' and it just stood to reason that this number would be an appropriate number for my new building. SHE WAS AGAST!!...that I would "make up" such a number!!...and told me that I need to apply for a 911 number and send in another $50. to have a legal address. (I am already giving the county $240. for a building permit - And my building is going to be located near 12 avenue and 45th street in a very rural area.....so this ain't exactly rocket science.)

So....this got my goat a bit...and I decided to press this issue. I told her she could put what ever address on the application that she wanted...and unless it was required I didn't see any point in "registering" the address. She told me I needed it if I had a sewer or water....noooo.....or if I had power or other services to the building......nooooooo :D Well.....she could think of no other reason I NEEDED to have a number other than if an emergency. At the end of the day....she agreed I did not HAVE TO have a number for my building permit...and if I did have a number....the one I had chosen for the application would be correct....so she was going to use it. LMAO :D:D:D

Somtimes you just gotta wonder. ;)

Wow, this thread has been insightful.
I understand the why of the 911 registering, but strongly object to the cost of it. Does it take $50 worth of manpower to fill out a form and get this place on a map?
Whenever I see the word "FEE" in regards to the government, I replace it with "TAX"
IE, "Vehicle title transfer Fee" Becomes "Vehicle Title Transfer Tax"
They never raise a fee, they raise a tax.

WOW!!!....if I have made but one soul see the light....then this has all been worth it. ;) Tax you say??? ye gads son......I think you got it!!

It's all a matter of self-preservation of the "bureau of tax, manipulation and envy". Hey.."so, he worked for it....lets tax it from him....what say you?" (OK....that may have been a bit brash....it's the lack of taxable nicotene I tell 'ya)

Geeez Soundguy.....I was "so" into your posts.....and now I just don't know what to think.

Don't you understand?? For about $300...they will give me a permit with a 911 addy....and for about an extra $399 a year in new real estate taxes (annually) they will "allow" me to store my tractor under a "proper" 911 address. Now then.....with about ten more "good ole boys" like me, paying the same taxes...they will hire another gal....and figure out another way to tax us all out of what ever we been working for!! Now, I'm having trouble with this....and......some day.....when you have seen enough....you will too!!

Google your address and see what you get
Tom in Vermont

Yeah I'm familiar with that, I'm very interested in the mapping and satellite views.
That's why I asked is the 911 system the master database that all the mapping software uses to get the actual addresses?
Some areas on Google maps have street view now where you can see the front of the houses.

As far as the cell phone location goes all the new phones have 911 call location and most can be located anytime they are turned on.

I've got that chaperon service from Verizon where I can see where my kids are from the computer, or get text message alerts when they are entering or leaving specified locations. as long as the phones are turned on.

My cell gives you the option of turning this off so those wearing tin foil hats can still hide from big brother.
