I'm new to this forum and I've been researching buying an all purpose garden tractor to mow my 1/2 acre+ lawn and do miscellaneous chores around my property (2 1/4 acres). I was originally considering a Home Depot/Lowes beer can tractor but a friend of mine has convinced me that they are junk and I also want a FEL/longevity. My research keeps pointing to a BX1500. My questions are how does it stack up size wise to the BX 18 series, does the 3pt hitch only have two positions (up or down), and what is a good price for a used BX1500 with less than 100 hours with either a 1) FEL and 48mmm or 2) 48mmm only? Also, if the 3pt hitch only has two positions, is this an issue?

OBTW, I'll be mowing, picking up a s-load of leaves in the fall, and moving lots of mulch and moving lots of firewood.

thanks

I 'm not able to answer your questions about price, but I can address the question regarding the hitch. It is continuously adjustable, up and down, with a full range.

Have you found one since you mentioned under 100 hours? If not, and you use that as your search criteria you'll really be narrowing down your field of choice. The BX1500 will do all you want it to do from your description. In order to find a low hours BX also include the other BX's. You may find one of the others that someone really wants to get rid of and maybe at very little difference in price. If your borrowing money to buy then check with Kubota dealers like Barlow Equipment and they may still have the low interest on used equipment they sell. I would check with Barlows even if I had cash to get a reference price and then look around for awhile. If they don't have what you want I think they'll contact you if they get one.

Are you absolutely sure you want a 48" deck ? Perhaps a next larger size would be nice to have some easy over lap ? I have a 60" deck and its really nice when making turns. The 3pt on all tractors really does have only 2 positions up and down. Some tractors like my bx24 have one side of the 3 pt to have a manual tilt and I am sure the bx1500 has one too but I can't confirm this. perhaps another BX1500 owner can confirm this.

I think you mean the mini tractors have 2 position 3PHs. Actually you can choose position on them by stopping the rise or fall of the arms at the desired height by centering the control. It will "hold" that position [leaking down slowly under the weight of the load]. Larger tractors automatically hold position according to the setting you choose with the control lever.

The BX1500s do have manual adjustable/tilt on the control arms. They are also available with 54" MMM.

I agree with the others, don't limit your search to a BX1500, and don't limit it to under 100 hours. Maybe pick 500 hours or 250 hours instead. I assume you can still buy a deck and end loader for all the BX's, so if you find one not exactly what you want, get a price from Kubota on what it takes to add the implements you want.

When I bought my BX2350, they had a used BX2350 with a 60" deck for $7000 with 1200 hours, but I think that was on the high side. Check on Tractor House, they usually have several BX's for sale and you can get an idea on what they go for.

1*The 3 point only has 2 directions up or down but not both at the same time.
So it's really 2 driections not 2 positions.
It has many positions when going either up or down.

1*The 3pt on all tractors really does have only 2 positions up and down. .

1*He will look a loooong time and may never find any thing with such a limiting restriction.
2*I know you can buy a BX1500 mower deck from me.

2*Depends on which 18 series you're comparing it with.
3*Where did you get that idea?
4*$6300 to $6900 new.
Used $4500 to $5500
This is for tractor only no attachments.

You'll be happy with any of the BX series tractors. As for your friend's advice against buying a beer can mower he's right. You won't believe how much more play....er.....uh, work you can do with it. An ordinary riding mower is just that--a riding mower. A BX kubota is very "user friendly" and has uses that you don't even realize until you've had it for a while. Don't hesitate to buy a used one, Kubotas are very well engineered and replacement parts are plentiful. Good Luck!!!

Regarding the 3pt being either up or down; I read a review where the owner said that one of his complaints was that the 3pt hitch only had two positions...all the way up or all the way down with no in between.

No one has mentioned size. Is the tractor physically the same size as a BX1800, BX1830, BX1860, BX2300, etc.? The specifications sheet shows that the tractor's wheelbase is a bilt smaller than the 18 and 23 series.

Thanks for all the advice.

The wheelbaseof the 1500 is smaller as you see in the specs. Thats one reason why I bought it. Tighter turning radius. I did spec BX 1800 AG tires on it when I bought it tho for more ground clearance and added traction.

The BX1500 is the same size as the BX1850 and BX1860 With a 15hp engine where the others have a 18hp engine. These are the short wheelbase BX series. The BX1800 and BX1830 are long wheelbase models. All of the other BX Series are The longer wheel base. With HP's of 18, 22-23, and 25.5.

1*The guy was wrong about that because there was something wrong with his not everyone elses also.
What he stated only applied to his particular tractor not anybody elses.

2*I did in post # 9 where I stated 2*Depends on which 18 series you're comparing it with.

To further clarify:
Prior to the introduction of the 2350 and 24 there was 4 BX models.

They were
2230 no BH
BX23 with BH

BX1830

BX1500

The BX 2230 BX 23 & BX1830 all shared the same wheel base and the same wheels and tires and so were basically the same tractor except for the BX1830 having 18 hp where as the BX2230 and BX23 had 22 HP.
All 3 were 3 cylinder diesels

The BX1500 wheel base was 2.3 inches less than the BX2230 BX23 & BX1830 and the diamater of the wheels was 2inches smaller than the BX2230 BX23 & BX1830 .
The BX1500 had a 2 cyl 15 horse power diesel.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Things changed with the introduction of the BX2350 BX24 and BX1850.
Only the BX2350 and BX24 share the same wheel base and the same wheels and tires.
The BX1850 now shares the same short wheel base and the 2 inch smaller wheels as the BX1500 but it received the 3 Cylinder 18 HP the BX1830 had.
The line up was cut from the 4 former models to just 3 models.
**************
In summation the BX1850 is in reality the former BX1500 with a 3 Cyl 18 hp diesel and the BX18 as we know it is gone.
