L2501 HST, stalled it while loading FEL

Loading up the 66" bucket with sandy loam, I tried to get a little running start a couple times, in low, to get a real full bucket, and stalled. Sandy loam is real nice to work with, sometimes hard to get a good bite, keep it low when moving it does get heavy.

I say 66" bucket because I added 6" of spacers and rear tires are 66", bucket dump and drag will barely cover my tracks. I could be wrong on bucket size, have to double check myself, as usual lol.

Also run a sand filled ballast box on a QH (which I've managed to drag once or twice from being low, thinking that's why a bearing arm is a little bent), tires not filled, open cab.

I've only stalled a few times, convinced I need to lighten up a bit.

Besides beating too hard on this little guy, will stalling hurt it?

Only about 30 hours on the clock. That HST sure does whine a lot.

Is it stalling from bogging down hard or just cutting out? Could be the seat safety switch. Maybe you raise your body slightly and it shuts it down.

Yes, you can bend an engine rod from stalling. I think you are applying too much pedal. You get more torque in low range with less pedal pressure... (back off the gas pedal). You should be able to slowly dig into the pile.

Never get a "running start"... if you use your loader correctly, you shouldn't need to ram the pile. The loader would need curl and lift, alternately applied to carve / cut into a dirt pile. It is NOT a bulldozer and you are more likely to bend your front end loader arms then bend a rod.

Also, if you have more work like this, a tooth bar (several versions of them) help a whole bunch while digging in dirt. It concentrates all the force onto the little area of the teeth's leading edge.

You should be spinning tire before "Stalling". Filling tire should help if you do spin your tires.

Digging into a pile of dirt, you should always be in Low Range.

I blew an HST oil seal on my old B7100HST doing this. Definitely not recommended!

I've only stalled out a tractor once while stump grinding. I suspect it places a lot of stress on the engine, and in my case the PTO also.
As mentioned, a tooth bar, low gear, and curling the bucket during forward motion are all good ideas.
