Hey everyone this is my 1st post but I have been reading as much here as possible. My question is that I have a used CUT and a small riding mower that I want to build a run in shed to keep dry, I was thinking about making it 24' long by 10' deep and 10 ft tall, do you think that will be large enough? I do have some attatchments to store also. Thanks in advance

By run in shed I assume you mean a three sided shed.
Building a three sided run in shed the size you mention will be fine although the open side will be subjected to the elements meaning a driving rain will be blown in the open side getting the equipment wet. If you don't have doors you may want to make it deeper or if most of your driving rains / bad weather come from the west, have the open side facing east.

Almost forgot to mention. Welcome to the group.

Do yourself a favor and build it as large as you can afford.
You will get more and more toys er tools and you will need all the room you can get.

Can you fit anything in 10 foot deep shed??? Seems it won't cover the CUT unless it is 16 feet deep. Someday you might get a little bigger one, or one with a loader. I just don't see a 10 foot depth being worthwhile.

You get a loader, the tractor, and a tiller or other implement on the back, and you are looking at 20 feet, not 10 feet? Be sure to plan ahead to what you will have, not just what you have now.

Welcome to the place. :)

Make the shed as big as you possibly can. Stuff accumulates and it lasts a lot longer if it is out of the weather.

I agree w/the other gentlemen...bigger also plan on power, for may want to putter in shed while the stars are shining.

Welcome to TBN. :)

Tractor with a loader on it and a cutter on the back will fill about 20 ft of the 24. Leaving room for the mower. No real room for any other attachments.

If it's all you can afford for now, go for it. If you can make it bigger do that. Try and see how you can plan for easy expansion in the future, just in case.

This is the shed I built last year for my haying equipment. It's 20x28 ft with 10ft height on the open side and dropping to 9 ft on the opposite side. Pole frame with 29 ga metal siding and roofing. Eleven 4x6 pressure treated posts with Simpson post bases. 2x4 girts and purlins. 2x8 rafters. 4x12 main beams on two rows of 3 posts. 4x10 beams on the row with 5 posts. 4x4 knee braces fastened by 1/2x6" lag bolts.

My Mahindra 5525 with the ML250 FEL and a pair of clamp-on forks came in handy for setting the beams onto the tops of the posts.

There's about $3200 in materials and 2 months of my labor in that project.

These sheds fill up fast. I've already staked out jobsites for 2 more sheds. I'll get around to those eventually.

I was thinking about building...but ended up using/buying a steel unit from these guys. If you call them they are really helpfull on what you want to do...and have many options on frame work height, number of frame works (for heavy snow loads, siding, ect. Check out the webs sight, visit someone that has the carport with the $799 sign...they are all over, at lease the N. OH area, or call 866.358.3999 Open Carport Style - American Steel Carports, Inc. | Steel Carports I purchased an 18 X 21 with 7 ft wall option and siding to the ground. one end is 1 inch away from an existing building, only one end is open. I used poly tarps on this end to out the wet and white stuff. 2006 price $1400 buck, and it took two guys less then 3 hours to do. DONE! I'm really pleased with mine. :D you would think I'm a sales for this outfit...but I'm not just really happy with the product and service...and so far the performance.

Now, you can't say you built it! Can't say it the prettiest build! But it will keep the rain and snow off the equipment.

It's an option!

My plan is to build a three sided shed to park my tractor in and store some other things. My original plan was to make it 30 feet wide with posts at ten feet. Then I was going to make it 12 feet deep. I've changed my mind and will be making it 16 feet deep.

30x16 should be good for parking and storing items out of the elements and still be affordable.

Wish it had a door on both ends.
Digging out the one in the front to get to the one in the back got old real fast.

Dongerosa, how much snow do you get? We had 22" on the ground the 1st of the year than it rained. In our area there was 4 sheds that I know of, that the roof caved in. On guy had major damage to his truck. They will work if you keep the snow off.

kcpresision, Sorry to here about the people that had problems. Did they purchase the structure for the snow loads you get? If they did I think I would be asking some questions.

To awnser your question on how much snow do I get. This year we had 18 - 20 inches on the ground at one point. This is not typicial however for N. Ohio. Winter of 2007 I had a 4 foot tall drift on the one end...it really deflected the frame 4 -5 inches. I know this because of the bent conduit running into the main building. Maybe that's what save it from going down?

Before purchasing, snow load was one of my concerns, in addition to wind blowing it away. The factory guy said they have these all over the US without any problems, if they are configured for the load. But this is sales talk!

I have been retired this coming April 6 years. Retired at 62. Worked for a company that sold Industrial Water & Sewer Products. Was a Service Tech. Glorified Name for a Mech. . Traveled WV, OH, KY & TN to work on Water & Sewer Systems. Wasn't home much. Have realy enjoyed retirment. I also have a farm that I don't live on about 45 Miles from where I live. Is 55 Acres more or less. mostly wooded. I just enjoy walking aroundon it . No house but do take 23' camper over for extended stay two to three weeks at a time. I wish you luck on building.

Dongerosa,I don't know what snow load the sheds were rated for.
We have a friend that needed a shed. She and I talked about what would be good, so she purchased a shed that had the ribs running parallel with the pitch of the roof.

If it had not been for her close neighbors checking her home while she was absent she would have lost the shed this year.

I don't know what would be good but I know those sheds are not good where you can get a lot of real heavy snow loads.

Now back to the run in shed. Sorry about the side track.

Eddi with a three sided structure will you have more problems with snakes hiding in the barn? I was just wondering if a closed structure would keep them out?

Not sure you can get an equipment shed tight enough to keep out all the snakes. Especially ones with two legs.
