3ph trailer hitch

1)
On your bucket hitch, when you hook up to a trailer does the front of
your bucket (CUTTING EDGE) hit your trailer or the jack on a trailer?

2) When you bolted in on the top, does your bolts come out on the inside of your bucket?
(on my bucket there is a hollow space on the inside of the bucket at the top, was just thinking about welding it on top)

Several years ago i put one on the inside of my bucket, i bolted it in
and when i don't need it i take it out. but when i go to hook up on any kind of a trailer it is hard too see, because it is down so low.

I make extension hitches, i have a slide in camper for a pickup truck
and pull a boat behind, if i didn't use the extension hitch the boat would hit the camper if i made a sharp turn.

(If i put the hitch on top of my bucket and use a extension hitch, do you think it would be better to hook up to a trailer)

1) The cutting edge doesn't hit any part of the trailer, on rough ground it may scrape the ground do to the hitch being high on top of the bucket, I have a small drop insert, a longer drop would be better.

2) Read my thread, I would probably weld it on a plate then weld the plate on now.

3) (If i put the hitch on top of my bucket and use a extension hitch, do you think it would be better to hook up to a trailer) Not sure.

I'm not sure what you plan on doing with yours, for me trailer jockeying is not the primary use, but it sure comes in handy, I do drive forward also as well as backwards, sharp angles will catch the trailer with the bucket sides. for serious trailer moving with the tractor, you can't beat the Flex Point or that EZ Mover modified horizontal draw bar.

Origanal thread, with more pictures.

Thanks for the original thread on this!

Great pictures and a great setup with the Imatch, most of the time my backhoe is on, that's why i like the hitch on the bucket, if my BH is off the tractor then i just use the draw bar that came with the tractor.

I need to get a quick hitch, i don't know if you saw the thread on
connecting a pto coupling, there was a post about a hitch from JD called a (AUTOHITCH), that is a really good setup.

Thanks for the Thread

I know that this thread is a little old, but the information is timeless. I'm new into the tractor world and am reviewing all of the "Make It Yourself" entries. I'm now up to page 33 :)

JC, I have a question.

How do you pull a t-post with your chain? I don't see a hook and I have a number of posts to pull this spring. I'm making a version of your trailer hitch and would like more information on how you use the chain.

Thanks,

Clem

Chem,

Sorry I did not respond to your question as I forgot all about this thread. Since I have taken the pic I added a grab hook to the chain. Let say I'm raising something up where there is a lip I can hook it up with the lip and partially lift and drag... nothing really precise. I can wrap the chain around a fallen tree trunk and lift the front some and drag easier. Heavy duty dragging/pulling and the draw bar is the proper way of pulling things. I have a hitch ball that I can easily use to to pull my trailer but have not had a need for it yet as the carry all is better for direction change and tight spots than trailer. Nothing can be easier than pulling a t-post, I just back up to the T-post, wrap the chain around the post an let the hook grab the chain and pull it out like the tooth pick out of warm butter.:D
