2009 Polaris XP

/ 2009 Polaris XP #41
I just bought my dad a Ranger and while I do not think it handles loads as well as my XUV, it does fine. The adjustable shocks make a big difference. As has been stated before if one wants a true UV that works super hard and can handle big loads, go with the Kubota. If one wants a UV that can handle big loads AND go fast and is sporty, go with the Polaris. If one wants a nice combination of both, go with the XUV. I really enjoy using my dad's Ranger at his place and for his needs it is perfect. For me though, and for what mine does, I prefer the XUV for personal use. It is not quite as fast, but pretty fast, and with the diesel engine pulls like a mule. My dad is getting older though and I like seeing that the Ranger helps keep him young. It is also much easier for him to use than the Sportsman ATV I bought for him several Christmas's prior.

What setting are you using for the rear shocks/springs. I have seen videos of people loading the XP with the springs set at the softest settings and saying "see, it can't hold the weight"

We adjust them according to need but even with the tank on it, I never put them on the stiffest setting. I probably could/should because there is no doubt that she sags, but if I'm not bottoming out I figure why go too stiff?

ok we gonna try 1000k i'm gonna call my buddy tomorrow and get him over here . we gonna see if we can make a ranger do a wheelie.lol

Tommy,

What happened to your buddy and the battery test?

i think he's havin second thoughts. he won't return any phone calls. i know he has to do something soon because i need to call the battery guy this week to make a pickup. i'm gonna keep trying . i really wanna see the ranger handle the load . atleast it would be a true test . i haven't given up though.

While we're waiting, why don't you load up 1,000 pounds of batteries in your gator and take/post some photos...just so we can compare them when/if your buddy shows up with his Ranger?

i already done had it loaded the hpx has a solid rear axle and it only drops down 4"after that it won't go down any further sorry.i had it hooked to a traler with a dry tong weight of about 600lbs and i then loaded the trailer with another 5000k i bent my rear reciever hauling the laod but the rear end on the hpx will only go down so far. now if it had a irs rear end i'm sure it would do some squating too but thanks to the solid rear axles it's limited on how far it will squat.

So....you didn't load the cargo box; you put a load on the hitch. What was the tounge weight after you loaded it, any idea?

I'm not familiar with the Gator...you said it went down 4"; is that the limit of it's suspension travel?

There are a few different models of the gator. The HPX is not the independant suspension like the XUV. The XUV would be more comparable to the ranger.

I believe that the HPX would bottom out at about 4"s.....

But, I agree, load it in the bed, show us how well it dumped and such:D

ok i'll load it but i ain't dumping it .i don't have a power dump bed but all it's gonna do it go down 4 " from what it is now. bed wise now the rear diferential will not change ground clearance at all it will stay the same the shocks are mounted to the axle and the upper frame so the only thing that will move is the upper frame it's gonna come down 4" maybe 3-1/2 " at the most most of the time you can't even tell i have it maxed out. but i'll load it down don't be expecting a sqauting to the ground gator though .lol. it's not like a irs utv this baby is made for hauling.

no what i'm saying is the hpx with a full load will only drop 4" now with the reailer i had the toung weight was around 1200k or more it bent my hitch really good infact when i took off the front end came off the ground so i had to creep up slowly the front tires was just scaping the ground i really didn't have any steering lucky i just had to go straight.

The HD and XP are still available...

/ 2009 Polaris XP #54
Guys, 5 o'clock came to early today.

For the 2009 Ranger XP, it has sparked my interest and I am mostly anti-Polaris. The HD seems to have nice expensive features that may be worth it for some.

I scanned through 6 pages of trashing, bashing, repeats, truth stretching and more. I did see mention of JD green. I would like to add a couple of cents.

My experinece with the Ranger comes from pre- '09 models, but I can't imagine it getting worse.

JD XUV vs. Ranger- the ride quality of the Ranger is superior. The Rhino is better yet. For the mud in this area, the XUV gets stuck in tinckked on grass compared to most others, Kubota is the exception.

The XUV has approx 23 or 29 HP?( not sure). It runs 30 MPH. Take one for a spin empty and see what happens on the hills. It cannot maintain 30 unless it's going downhill.

Work wise, I can't say which pulls more or hauls more. But the Polaris rides good, it's quiet, and has the speed to get you there and back. If you want something to work harder, get the HD. Otherwise, get a truck or tractor.

Good Luck!

what is tinckked grass?? that must be some really thick stuff cause my hpx goes through alot of mudd.grass never stopped it infact small trees never stopped it.???

Sorry, I meant tinckled on grass and was referrring to the XUV compared to the Ranger of Rhino.

the only thing that stops my hpx is the clutch enclosure vent and the weight sometimes other than that if it was water tight i could go alot more places. plus the flywheel is open too that thing tends to collect trash sometimes.lol i seen my rhino get stuck in some places where my hpx just passed right through. it all depends on how you hit the rut or hole. but i understand what you mean. the ranger and rhino are better suited for offroad .

Polaris makes a nice UTV. I would say my father's does ride a bit smoother than my XUV. As to traction I cannot speak to whether the XUV falters here with stock tires, but I can say with aftermarket tires my diesel XUV has yet to be stopped by any terrain I have felt comfortable traversing. My perception is that my Gator pulls better than my dad's Polaris, but I agree top end speed, etc. are not its strong suit. I, like others, frequently run in the 5-20 mph range which makes the XUV fine for my usage.

As November and the subsequent deer hunting season(s) are now upon us, all I am looking to haul with my Ranger is the nice buck I'm going to shoot this year! ;)
