When to cut down trees?

I have 6 or so trees I want to cut down to thin out my yard. They average 8 inch diameter at the base. Some bigger some smaller. I will use the wood for fire wood. When can I cut to minimize sap in the trees. I live in northwestern Louisiana. We are just getting Fall colors. It will be early Dec. before the leaves will be fully brown.

Cut them now. You will get significantly more drying over the next month compared to waiting for lower sap levels.

Remove a 12" band of bark completely around the tree now & cut next July. The leaves will draw a lot of moisture from the wood that the roots cannot replace. MikeD74T
