hi all, i just finished hooking up my propane grill to the line coming into my home. i'm using 1/2 black pipe about 20' run then reduced to 1/4" gas which is on the grill regulator. When i turned on the gas and waited a while it is burning very very low, like when your almost out of gas when you use the 20# cylinder.. any ideas how to fix it? again, this is coming ultimatly from my 500# which is 50% full.. :(

1/4 line sounds small to me.

You must have regulator issues. 20' of 1/2 BLACK pipe @ 11'' W.C. should be good for about 200 cfh. Are you using 1/4'' copper tubing like on a refrigerator ice maker ??

put the tank back on and see what happens.

if you have the same results you have a regulator issue.

1/4" line should be plenty. the standard rubber hose that feeds the burners only has an ID of like 1/8"

Mine is larger than 1/8 '' ID. I converted my propane grill to N.G. To do this I had to insert 3/8 OD copper tubing inside the rubber hose

maybe i should try w/o the regulator on it tomorrow.. there is the 2nd stage regulator before where i tapped into the house line so that should be good enought huh.. 1/4" was alreayd there on the other side of the regulator as standard on this gas grill (weber).

Yes, if you tapped in down stream of the second stage regulator then you have 11 inches of pressure. The size of pipe you are using is just fine. Take the bbq regulator off. Your 11 inches of pressure isn't enough to make it work.

11'' W.C. is the correct operating pressure for propane

Yes you can't stack regulators....
One thing I saw on an RV several years ago was a ball valve and QD on the propane to the BBQ mounted on slides in a storage compartment.
Does anyone know if you need a specially rated valve or QD for propane use ?

Stacking regulators may depend on the tank size and regulator rating.:D

In another life the C3 piping system for a 500 gallon tank used to supply our house furnace and hot heater system required two regulators. :D
