Backhoe Zerks for KB 2485~ size?....

This is my old thread, but revived because the same basic problem exists. I did find the dealer's Kioti zerks DO fit my backhoe. I also found that my metric tap/die set gauges show the threads to be a tapered metric thread, which I wrote down for reference, but do not have in front of me. I plan to do a search for some independent supplier of these zerks for future use.
I believe poster ON84 named the particular Kioti part number to use.
Here's what I did to repair the zerk hole on my backhoe's stabilizer pad after trying various sizes of incorrect zerks. I took out the pin and removed the pad and found the correct size tap and carefully chased the threads and then took a new Kioti zerk, and using Teflon tape on the threads, was able to seal the zerk without over-tightening it or having it too loose. One problem solved.
I also inadvertently found that there was another zerk that I could not get any grease into and found out by removing it that it had been over-tightened, resulting in the zerk bottoming out on the pin it was supposed to be allowing grease onto. I took apart this fitting and again used Teflon tape to make it seal properly so grease could access the pin's slot; which had never been the case since factory install!! So I suggest making sure all your zerks are allowing grease to flow and are not bottomed out against any pin from a factory gorilla using too much torque on them!:confused2:

I had one particular zerk on my 451 loader that would not pass grease. I was able to fix this by removing and cleaning the zerk fitting. There seemed to be some fibrous substance plugging the fitting (maybe old dried grease?). In any case all was OK on reassembly.

I broke off a zerk on my loader trying to pull off a stuck grease gun. Now I am screwed... I can't find a replacement anywhere. Even went to the dealer and he didn't have the correct size. Has anyone come up with a solution to this? I should have bought a Kubota,

Same with the 2475 Hoe. I have a broken one on my bucket pin that I grease by pulling one from the Hoe chassis, grease, replace back to origin.

I've tried the 1/8th NPT, Metric and none fit. I'm waiting on some tapered zerks to come in and will try them also... Seriously considering tapping them, but just haven't bitten the bullet yet.

Have been there and done that. Do what Ricklman suggested. That will work for now. Get a pack of zerks from your Kioti dealer. One of my earlier threads shows the part number. You WILL NOT find anything locally, everyone has tried and failed- don't waste your time; just get a bunch from the dealer, they're not that expensive.
To the OP: you need to be patient, during the daytime hours people are out and about. Your issue is not life threatening, and most of us answer people's questions without the need to solicit a dealer's help unless it's something the forum members can't answer. Your comment about 'should have bought a Kubota' is not appreciated here, you broke a zerk because you don't know how to use a grease gun- how is that a Kioti tractor's fault?! lets be realistic here, we are trying to help you- so leave the over-reaction to a simple user caused problem behind when you seek out help here- you're much more likely to get what you seek from the Kioti forum members, with a positive attitude.

Grease gun should have a knurled section on the tip to allow the 'jaws' of the tip to be loosened or tightened for a snug fit when applying grease, and a loose fit to remove tip from zerk.

So I called the dealer back to see if he could suggest something. Turns out he was mistaken and he actually does have these fittings ($3.80 each!). They are Kioti part number 4001-0001 if anyone is interested. But as someone else said, don't bother looking anywhere else, online or otherwise because you won't find them.

No kidding! They have you "over a barrel" because they know you can't get them anywhere else. I bought two so I would have a spare. $7.60 for two grease fittings. I lost a couple of lynch pins a few weeks ago. Turns out they are 9mm which you cannot find anywhere except from Kioti. I'm using 5/16" instead. They are a bit small but I figure they are just there to keep the pins from working out.

I'm fairly new to this whole tractor thing so pardon the very basic question.... How does a grease fitting break while you're greasing it? I've heard of rocks hitting them and stuff but I can't imagine breaking it from greasing.

They get stuck to the gun and as you pull it snaps. These are the worst zerks I've ever greased...

I missed something. Was this meant for me? Post #23 dustinfox mentioned breaking off a zerk while greasing. I'm just trying to learn here... When I have one that won't come off I just unscrew the adjuster until it does.

Grizzly, some couplers seem to be a lot worse than others, and when they are new, they are all tighter. But you are basically right, loosen the front knurled portion of the coupler until it comes off easily. The Problem with the Kioti loader Zerks is since they are nicely recessed so they will not get knocked off by rocks. you cannot tilt the coupler sideways, hardly at all That is ordinarily an easy way to also remove the coupler. So you must unscrew the coupler a lot to get some of the couplers to pop off. All lot of my old ones have no trouble with them but I bought a new grease gun a few days ago. and I almost had to totally unscrew the grease gun to get it off. I have never broken a Zerk in my life and I have been greasing tractors for 20 years, but It would not be hard to break one, just yank hard on it, it might break:shocked:.
I stoned on the jaws of my new coupler and it is better, and may stone on it some more to slick it up some more.

I thought I'd seen it all and heard it all until last night I was watching the news when they told of a guy from CT coming to VT and asking at a country store for his sandwich to contain less meat and more cheese. The store told him the cost would be the same, he stomped out, came back and he called 911 from the store's phone! The operator asked if he was calling 911 to report he didn't like a sandwich? He said yes! The operator told him not to buy it! End of story about wingnutz. True story BTW.

Huh, where's the eating popcorn icon. This is almost as good as the Hydrostatic / Filters discussion that Murph and I had. You all realize this is over a zerk right??? Just drill and tap to 1/8" NPT, problem solved!!! CJ
