Z920A Starter

After the outbuilding was finally accessible, I tried starting the Z920A mower.
It started right up, but I shut it right down since I wanted to open the overhead door.
Restarting, I'm just getting a ratcheting sound...and I'm pretty sure it's the starter Bendix not fully engaging.

Anyone had this problem? You think tapping the starter might work? I hope I don't have to replace it...and hopefully someone more mechanically inclined then I am will chime in...

check battery, tapping on starter won't hurt it

I agree check for corrosion on the cables and test the battery voltage. My exmark has the bendix on the side of the frame, not built on to the starter. If you can find the bendix try jumping a wire across the terminals and see if it cranks.

I'd think "low battery" first off. Once started, let them run for awhile before shutting down.

It seems like it's cranking fast enough to eliminate the battery, but I'll try charging it this week.

You guys were right! Battery didn't have enough charge to engage the bendix. I charged to battery today and it's starts right up! Ran the mower around for about 10 minutes.

Glad it was a simple fix. Let's just hope the battery holds it's charge , those little battery's have about doubled in price in the last few years.
