I hauled a small load of logs this week.

Do you have any issue binding the logs down tight? I'm going to have a chance this summer to cut some wood at our hunting camp and was thinking about cutting logs and hauling them home on the trailer to try and get more. I was concerned about keeping the logs all tight without a loose one in the middle of the stack. Do you load with your tractor?

I don't really have any issues but, as you can see I go overkill when strapping them down. Id like to make some pipe stakes to aid in hauling them soon. I cut them to 10' lengths and haul them out of the woods on my flat wagon. Then I load them with the tractor and forks. Then when I get home (no tractor) I roll them off, cut them, and split. I find it easier to haul them this way versus hauling lots of little pieces.

I usually haul about 5-6 loads like that a year. I could easily get more on but, the weight adds up quickly. I am going to try and figure out the pipe steaks/log craddle here soon.

I think it would be easier that way than small pieces also. What would you estimate that load at? I'll probably go over a scale once I get a load but that doesn't help with that first load and a generic idea would be good.

We haul lots of logs and use a online calculator. You select the wood type, diameter, and length and it gives you a rough weight.

Im not sure on that load. The trailer alone is 3k. I have weighed one before and it was around 10K lbs.

Here's mine. Picked up a new Sure Trac 14' 14k lb. dump trailer and Kubota BX25D 2 weeks ago. Options on the trailer were HD adjustable coupler and jack, scissor lift, HD tarp kit, spare tire. Pulled just fine behind my 2013 Expedition with HD tow package, rear air suspension, etc.. Expedition is tow rated at ~9,000 lbs., I figured that load was about 6,500 lbs. Towed well and returned 10.9 mpg for the 160 mile trip. I have only a couple of acres to maintain, if I needed a F350 psd and more trailer/tractor I would have it, but this serves me perfectly for now.
