most agms have the same charge profile. you will be fine. do you need an agm/or want one?
ok, but the point was does the 23 hp B&S Vanguard motor in my Gravely have an alternator that will properly charge an AGM battery regardless of who makes it?most agms have the same charge profile. you will be fine. do you need an agm/or want one?
agm's can't be desulfated, at least not with a equalize charge,as they can't boil the battery to fix.ok, but the point was does the 23 hp B&S Vanguard motor in my Gravely have an alternator that will properly charge an AGM battery regardless of who makes it?
Don't AGM batteries require different final voltage levels vs lead acid?
I just bought a Napa Legend/ East Penn conventional sealed battery because the last one lasted almost ten years.
The alternator was happy with lead acid. Unless it has auto battery detect and charge profile switching,
how can this end well with an agm? Does it just not charge them all the way up? Or worse too much. That's what I think happened to me
before with an Ultima failure.
I religiously use an external 5a smart charger on all my batteries. It autodetects agm and I know the battery is getting properly charged, and also
desulphated for the long haul.
How about lithium? what charge profile does it want? Is my generator alternator going to recognize anything more than lead acid?
Dave, thanks. Guess I need to look at yellow tops. Am familiar with Xantrex, good equipment found as upgrade in rvs and boats.
belt and suspenders, something to back up the gen. I'd rather have a water wheel and a hydro gen...
Good solution for personal use..... OK, maybe not for one buddy of mine... he's the type to break an anvilI added a 10 watt solar panel & waterproof controller to our dump trailer equipment box lid. Does a good job of keeping the deep cycle topped off between uses. No nearby power for a maintainer where it gets parked.
Haven't owned one yet, but the feedback I've had on here and real-world about Champion has been good.On the generator related side, I installed a replacement battery in the Champion 7K dual fuel today. The 7 year old original was kaput. I also ordered a replacement ignition switch. It has been broken for a while now. The "on" and "start" postions work fine but the "off" position doesn't work. I've just been closing the fuel valve. Figured I should get it squared away.
BTW, the champion generator web site is a pretty good example of what a support site should be. No problem downloading a manual with exploded diagrams and part numbers on a discontinued machine. No problem using that part number to order the switch via their "shop" section. $5 for the three way switch & $5 for Fedex (or USPS priority) shipping.
