I can shop around for best price now but no one wants to fill unless it is less than 25% remaining. Always seems to happen during peak price season.

:mur:

That sucks.

I performed a battery maintenance & capacity test on my 4kw battery back-up system yesterday.
I have four 6v L16RE-B's and four 6v T105 plus trojan batteries with a combined ah capacityof 595 ah's at 24 volts.
Checked water level then isolated the system from the house and loaded the system with a portable space heater.
The heaters lowest setting is 570 watts which is close to what I need on a winters night.
I shut the system down after 3hrs 41minutes, 2.23kw was consumed according to my killawatt meter.
The DC load was (660 watts) 26.8A & 24.6v at start of test and 27.3A & 24.1V at end.
Rest voltage was 24.6V after 2 minutes.
After the charge cycle was complete I equalized the batteries for uniform Sg. readings.
I was going to use my Yanmar l70 gen set to recharge the system as an excerise but it was too late in the day so the utility got that task.
Today I will check the specific gravity and record to determine their condition.

Nice runs guys..... Tom, you really had me laughing, as I've gone through the same thing too..... It's almost like the control operators are running drone surveillance and say "Ok, he's gone to the trouble of pulling out that gen, Now we'll flip the switch !" Rgds, D.

We drove two hours each way one time to borrow a generator, and the power went back on just as we got back into town!

I like the Batteries+Inverter approach - quiet and saves fuel.

How are the battery loads segmented ? Or did you just separate them temporarily to make measurements ?

Nice capacity - could probably run all-night @ that load w/o unreasonable Depth of Disharge

Think you'll be as busy as last year ? < That was kinda nuts, IIRC.

3930dave,

i hope not. im not going to do as much advertising as i have done in the past. Generac actually sends me the bid requests. i also USED to advertise locally. i am trying to partially retire...you know work only 3 days a week this year. so im going to drop the local advertising.

ill still do service work and new installs, but im just trying to slow down abit. i have 6 large home projects that need my attention
1. finish painting the second half of my house
2. paint touchup trim on other buildings
3. build my wife her 16x12 garden shed
4. complete my rear redo of 6' x 45' covered deck (replacing wood deck with aluminum deck like i did out in front yard)
5. complete removal of my shop roof, remove vapor barrier and replace with osb board. reinstall existing metal roof.
6. complete insulating 2nd half of shop

i doubt ill get to complete half of these projects this year though....im getting a back ache just looking at the list

that's an easy list, as long as you do your wife's shed first, life will be good, guaranteed.
