It has been over a year since I ran mine. Mine is a PTO Generator as well, but I just moved houses again (I own 3) so it moved with us. I put it in its own building from protection from the weather, then hardwired it right into the house. It is an older unit, but 20 KW so it has got plenty of power for what I need.

I have a put to pasture Kohler KT-19 twin engine out of an old Gravely garden tractor,
which is now quite happy with its new 23hp Vanguard. But I haven't found a use for that engine.
19hp, what kw would that make without maxxing it. I'm guessing around 13-15kw.

Old heavy chunk of iron, if I could do something with it, might treat it to a new set of rings.
Been sitting on a pallet for years. Only has 1000 original hours on it.
Exhaust is like an old car, not very pleasant, but that can be piped away, plus this wouldn't run that much.
sounds like a fun winter project.

I wonder if there is a generic catalytic converter I could add to improve my emissions. You know, the
red cherry bomb converter, small twin can make a nice Harley sound. That Vanguard has nice pipes...the old KT, lower
rumbley note.

Since generators are made out of large amounts of copper, my memory of the ones in Northern Tools was surprisingly expensive.
Though I'm sure the Chinese imports have driven the cost down. No, I don't want the copper look (spray over aluminum), I want
it all copper. Yeah, yeah, I know much more expensive. ;)

The generator tech we currently use in small gens is ancient. Am surprised it's not been modernized much. I guess inverter
gens are the current best spec. Of course, I bet GRS would like things not mucked with too much. He will soon be
qualified to work on rockets...

Buying a PTO gen, first thing I'd do is put it in my will :D

A PTO generator is something that can be passed along.
It痴 a bit more effort to hook up but it痴 always in operational condition and the tractor is always ready for a long run.
Many years ago I ran my first fuel 8 hour consumption test while my wife doing laundry and using the electric dryer and it consumed 5 gallons in 8 hours.
I made mine very versatile with a 100 amp breaker panel and various protected circuits so I can bring significant power anywhere it痴 needed.
Being an electrical device care must be taken to ground it to avoid possible electrocution.
If you look carefully at my video you will see a heavy grounding cable clamped to my building.
I also make sure it is in firm contact with the ground.

I just got out both of my generators, ran them, serviced, and have them ready for the winter weather.

well, at hour two, for the first time, decided it was high time to put the new propane rv gen on load.
It fired up within three seconds on a damp low fifties morning and smoothly ran thereafter.
The longish exhaust pipe helps to dim the noise a little but it's still a whiner.
What was really interesting was to see a genuine rush of water out the tailpipe for a few seconds, then it ran
almost constantly for several minutes, then went from fast drip to slow drip. Good thing I pumped all that out.
Use it or lose it...

So once a huge amount of foggy smoke went away, all moisture related, the exhaust was clear and almost odorless.
My 1200 and 1400 watt electric heaters I take with me, nice quiet ones, put the 3600 gen to a good test.
Ran that for half an hour and turned it off. I'm supposed to change the oil at ten hours, that will take forever at this rate...
I might do it at 5.
