I need help. I'm trying to find a replacement carb for my 12 year old generator, and all I can find is one with a little black rotary choke knob.

The problem is that the large panel air filter blocks visual and tactical access to the carb, this is why the OEM carb had that lever that extended up and over the air filter housing.

I did buy one if the rotary knob versions, and I can run the machine, but you can not start it without removing the air filter to choke it, then replace it.

I'd really like to find this exact configuration. Would any of you small engine guys know how to track this down?

I haven't had to chase down carbs, yet at least.... so don't have a good source off the top of my head..... we'll see who drops by over the holidays..... Don't be shy about bumping again on this topic.....

That lever may be a separate part that the gen OE sourced separately - any chance of swapping it over ?

Much cleaner if you have an exact drop-in replacement, but if the choke moves smoothly, I might play around with transferring the arm, or making a substitute out of something light-weight.

Not my first goto, but I've made things work with JB Weld more times than I would like to admit....

Good luck, and post how goes......

I tried swapping, there is no way to get the cam off, the lever itself unbolts easy enough... But the rotary knob does not matter to it.

Well not a generator, but Santa gave me a 850VA battery backup surge protector for Xmas. Now when interrupted with short power outages, my home office and security system will be protected will be in good shape until I decide to fire up the generator!

I see a lot of folks on here complaining about PULL STARTING..
I TOO went thru that. until I ran across a video on utube that tells u how to & IF your gen can be converted to electric start..
I own a OLD PowerBack 5250 & converted it after a series of back surgeries.. & was no longer able to pull the 11HP motor.
The main thing to look for is if the engine block has {3}THREADED HOLES to mount a starter.. the rest is just sheet metal & 100.00 in parts.
I didn't go the full route of putting in a key switch, a relay & battery..
I just changed the flywheel & got a starter, both on ebay.. I hook up my "jump box" to the starter to start it..

"Mate" I think.... got it....

Hopefully you can get an exact match soon..... if not, I'd square up that round knob, and punch a mating hole in something like right-angle aluminum stock, and JB it in place. Not as clean, but should work.... heck, JB is strong enough that unless the choke butterfly is really stiff, a round hole would work....

Good luck,

Nice addition to your systems de  Takes care of power-out for just a few minutes, and adds some continuous filtering/protection.

Places I've worked, I've often been startled by no UPS's in place, let alone standby-power. Not much gets done at most workplaces with the grid down.

Good point.

$100 and a bit of time.... much better than forking out for a new gen.

I suspect plenty of older medium/larger portables are factory tapped already.

On the topic of Generators and UPSs -
I have a Sportsman 9KW/7.2KW generator that I run on propane when the power is out (Like it was here from Last Thursday until Sunday).
I also run all of my electronics (2 routers, 2 computers, 1 monitor, 1 TV, 1 DVR) on UPSs - An APC BackUPS 550, a CyberPower 485 and a CyberPower 1000.

When running on the generator, with the electronics all on, the UPSs kick on and off and alarm almost continuously even when the generator has a constant load.

Apparently the UPSs "don't like" the stability of the power put out by the generator (?).

Anyone else experience similar?

Have you measured your voltage and frequency while under load?
It doesn't take much for some of the ups's to kick in.
I have a kilo-watt power strip that I can look at while in the nice warm house while the generator is running.
It's nice in that it has several other functions, it will totalize the power drawn thru it and you can even input
a cost and it will totalize that for you also.
